Reporting To the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief - Administration & support is part of the Fire Department Senior Management Team and as such shares in the responsibility for providing leadership, direction and guidance to various divisions related to the Fire Department's business funcitons and operations. The position manages effective and efficient operations involving responsibilities related to fire prevention, fire investigation, human resources, operational analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, day-to-day management of Department Administration, and fire department facilities. The position assists the Fire Chief to plan, organize and coordinate operations and projects related to the business functions of the department, including recommendations for long and short-term fiscal planning. In addition, the position provides direction and guidance to exempt staff and employees on issues, including performance management, disability management, recruitment, occupational health & safety, coaching, mentoring and administering discipline.

**Required education, training and experience**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline such as Business Administration, Leadership, Fire Prevention or Human Resources
- Five years recent related fire experience interpreting, enacting and disseminating NFPS standards, Municipal Fire Bylaws, fire compliance plans, the BC Building Code and the BC Fire Code, including management supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

**Required licenses, certifications and registrations education**:

- Valid British Columbia Class 3 Driver's License with Air.
- Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner

**Required living boundaries**:

- The Deputy Fire Chief - Administration & Support has emergency duties which makes their availability on short notice of paramount importance. The incumbent must reside in the primary living boundaries and within 30 kilometers of the City.
