Position Purpose and Summary
The vision of Trinity Western University is to equip every graduate to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the World and the glory of God. Our students are learning within the context of an increasingly diverse community engaging on multiple campuses and online as part of a global Christian University. They face significant challenges like dystopia, distraction, and disintegration, loneliness and mental health challenges, further enhanced by cultural adaptation realities as international students. As we seek to equip them for life beyond graduation, there is high value to equipping them as part of what Martin Luther King, Jr called ‘a beloved community’.
The Associate Director is responsible to increase campus engagement by actively building relationships focused on connecting students with Student Life opportunities, campus events and University resources. They oversee the Student Life Richmond staff team with the goal of creating Christ-centered community and a culture of holistic wellbeing at TWU-Richmond. They also develop and oversee the Student Life Richmond budget and set annual objectives in line with the overall strategic goals for the University (in collaboration with the Director of Commuter Life). The Associate Director plays a key leadership role as part of the larger TWU Richmond management team giving input to the overall Student Life strategy and vision, as well serving as part of the Richmond operational team.
Key Areas of Accountability
- Manages the daily functions and operations of the Student Life Coordinator and Intern role(s), providing mentoring and supervision.
- Organizes and executes successful and purpose-filled student events; finds appropriate methods and activities to meet the relational and spiritual needs of international students.
- Provides leadership over the Richmond Student Leaders program, including:
- hiring, training, and management of team meetings and content
- provides individual Student Leader coaching
- Works collaboratively with key Student Life Student Ministries staff to plan and deliver outreach programs for the Richmond student population and context.
- Coordinates and supports delivery and hosting of Intensives student retreats and content, including outreach/Habitat trips.
- Serves as a member of the TWU-R management team, engaged in actively assessing and adapting strategies to needs of dynamic TWU-R environment, while contributing to the preservation of the core TWU experience in Richmond.
- Committed to engaging in TWU-R core team culture, participating in weekly staff meetings, ongoing team building activities, and other TWU-R staff and faculty initiatives.
- Participates in crisis management team, with willingness to be accessible outside of office hours to respond to security concerns or on-site emergencies.
- Hosts Richmond campus guests and supports campus events as needed.
