**Job Overview**
Under the general guidance of the Supervisor of Transportation, the Assistant Supervisor will be responsible for providing leadership and expertise regarding the Division’s transportation processes, managing operations of the pupil transportation activities, new bus orders, the maintenance of school bus fleet in a safe, efficient and economical manner and will ensure adherence to guidelines, regulations, and policies of the Louis Riel School Division.

**Responsibilities** **& Duties**

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

- Supporting the management of the Transportation department including the routing, scheduling, and supervision of school bus drivers to assure smooth operation of a variety of school bus routes.
- Leading and overseeing maintenance duties including establishing and maintaining standards of vehicle maintenance and preventative maintenance and ensuring that vehicles and personnel standards are consistent with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Supporting administrative tasks including preparing bus orders, and disposal of school buses and maintenance vehicles.

**Qualifications** **(Education, Experience, & Skills)**

**Education/Certification/Training**
- Completion of formal post-secondary education in Business Administration, Information Technology, Transportation, or in a related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Willingness to obtain Class 2 driver’s license within one year of employment.

**Experience**
- Minimum of three years of related experience in a similar position such as experience in a Transportation, Logistics or Fleet role
- Experience with supervision is required.
- Experience planning, coordinating, and conducting training and safety sessions.
- Experience in school bus transportation is preferred.

**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**
- Demonstrated knowledge of Provincial Legislation (The Public Schools Act, MR465/88) and Laws (HTA, National Safety Code), school bus operational best practices and standard safety procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in industry specific software as well as transportation routing software.
- Knowledge of Division policies and procedures, FIPPA, PHIA, WHMIS, WSH policies and procedures, WCB, and collective agreements would be an asset.
- Knowledge of mechanical or technical procedures of school bus safety and fleet management operations.
- Knowledge of routing, mapping, and scheduling.
- Ability to manage multiple demands combined with good problem-solving skills.
- Excellent public relations, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Strong map reading and mathematical skills.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent judgment and analytical skills with the ability to interpret situations accurately and act accordingly.
- Ability to resolve complaints and concerns in a helpful and courteous manner.
- Excellent team player combined with an ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French) would be an asset.

**Conditions of Employment**
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
- Completion of Respect in School or equivalent training.
- Hold a valid Class 2 School Bus Drivers License or higher.
- Valid Manitoba Driver’s License, a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
