**Brief Overview**:
The Métis Nation - Saskatchewan (MN-S) is seeking a qualified and knowledgeable individual to fill the role of Emergency Management Community Liaison. Under the supervision of the MN-S Climate Change Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating activities and communication among the MN-S, its citizens, community partners, all levels of government departments and agencies and other relevant stakeholders to advance emergency management priorities.

The Emergency Management Liaison will support communities to build and maintain long
- term resiliency against future crises and disasters. This will be done through increasing public awareness about identified risks, advocating for local needs and challenges, and supporting capacity building efforts where needed. Remote work in northern Saskatchewan Métis communities is a noted priority.

The role will also include working closely with the MN-S Emergency Response Coordinator to develop and maintain a comprehensive all-hazards strategic emergency management plan that establishes our provincial mandate, approach and structure moving forward.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Advocate for and establish a common understanding of Métis citizen needs, priorities, interests and concerns on emergency management with a strong focus on high-risk northern communities.
- Maintain local community readiness for emergencies by planning, coordinating and delivering emergency management prevention, preparedness and recovery programming and services.
- Work directly with communities to support capacity building activities that will strengthen local governance and establish effective emergency management plans.
- Assist in securing an environmental consultant to conduct comprehensive community vulnerability assessments. Coordinate with community representatives as required.
- Lead public emergency management information campaigns, disseminate pertinent materials, host workshops and deliver training to raise awareness of risks and promote preparedness.
- Participate in the development of a resource navigation centre that will serve as a centralized source of information, advocacy and support for individuals, businesses and organizations during emergency and disaster situations.
- Support the establishment of an MN-S Incident Command System.
- Develop and set strategic professional and departmental goals and objectives in coordination with the Environmental Team.
- Ensure emergency preparedness policies and procedures are culturally safe, respectful, and appropriate.
- Other duties/responsibilities as determined by the Climate Change Manager, Director of Environment, or Emergency Management Diazine Committee.

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Knowledge of Métis culture, history, governance legislation and present day challenges.
- Knowledge of emergency management principles and best practices supported by a comprehensive understanding of related Federal and Provincial legislation.
- Strong communication skills including speaking, writing, and active listening skills.
- Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel, database software, electronic communication tools such as Microsoft Outlook).
- Strong time management skills along with the ability to prioritize daily tasks, organizational skills, and effective decision-making abilities.
- Interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in difficult situations.
- Resiliency in dealing with changing schedules, timelines, and financial priorities.
- Adaptive to environmental or governmental priority shifts.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree, diploma or certification in one of the following disciplines: Emergency Preparedness/Management, Risk Management, NFPA Firefighting or a related field.
- Three to five years of directly related emergency management and response experience with a strong focus on program and/or service delivery at the community or municipal level.
- Incident Command System 100 and 200 certification and/or willingness to complete.
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience that relates to the duties and responsibilities of this role may be considered.

**Additional requirements**:

- Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation
- Travel and working outside of normal business hours (including weekends) may be required several times per month.
