**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health, patient & staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at Island Health; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager, the Peer Leader - Regional Practice is responsible for the implementation and coordination of initiatives, developing and delivering education, informing and influencing guideline and standards development, and leading clinical networks/advisories from a lived experience perspective. The Peer Leader develops, implements, and facilitates initiatives and work plans to support the goals of the regional Mental Health & Substance Use program and the ongoing needs set out by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, Island Health, and any other key interested and affected parties including people with lived and living experience. This position works closely with people with lived and living experience of mental health and/or substance use, their families, and chosen families.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related health discipline, lived and/or living experience of accessing MHSU services, plus a minimum of three (3) years' recent, related experience.

Experience in leading education initiatives and/or experience with advising and/or leading change in a complex health care organization is an asset. Completion or eligible for completion of a recognized peer support training program an asset.

Valid BC Driver's License.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- A level of lived/living experience of mental health and substance use services relevant to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Foundational knowledge of cultural safety, trauma informed practice, recovery oriented practice, and harm reduction principles
- Demonstrated knowledge of peer inclusion best practices and able to provide education regarding the unique experiences and knowledge Peer specialists hold while maintaining safety, care, and boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to ability to plan, implement, and problem solve independently.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to present and prepare concise analyses, reports and recommendations to multidisciplinary audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills and ability to provide support to teams.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
