**ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW**:
University Settlement is a multi-service agency that was founded in 1910 and has the distinction of being the first community-based social service centre in the City of Toronto. University Settlement’s three offices are part of culturally rich and vibrant neighborhoods in downtown Toronto and North York.
With a full-time and part-time staff of approximately 150, University Settlement has developed programs to address the needs of more than 8,000 users annually through diverse areas such as settlement services, English language classes, senior services, youth programming, music and arts education, and daycare. In addition, our main site hosts a full recreation centre with pool, gym and fitness facility.

**JOB FUNCTION**:
This position carries the responsibility for the safety, welfare, education and leadership of children participating in specific recreational programs and activities in University Settlement’s Afterschool
Program.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience working with children in a group setting.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate high-quality programs for participants aged 4-12
- Able to work effectively as a team-player
- Interest and experience instructing, teaching or leading children in these program areas: cooking, sports, active games, dance, hands-on science, arts, book club, etc.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Excellent problem solving and customer service skills
- Mandatory Requirement: HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification
- Mandatory Requirement: Standard First Aid and CPR-C

**ASSETS**:

- 2nd language
- Experience with children in a group setting
- Non-profit experience
- Experience working/volunteering in a multi-cultural setting
- Post-Secondary education in Education, Early Childhood Education, Outdoor Recreation,
- Recreation & Leisure or equivalent
- ECE or OCT Certified with Primary/Junior qualifications

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work with the Children’s Program Coordinator to develop and teach/coach specific program activities according to basic structure provided for children/participants
- Plan and implement the specific activities planned for each session
- Evaluate the success of the program, providing feedback, new ideas and recommendations for the next session
- Ensure the safety and supervisor of participants
- Foster and maintain positive relations with parents and/or guardians and discuss children's progress in the Afterschool program
- Complete attendance, submit statistical records, complete sign-out duties and other reports as needed
- Submit core plans and lesson plans at the start of each session in consultation with the Program
- Coordinator
- Participate in the escort service from local public schools to University Settlement, supervising and ensuring the safety of all children
- Assist with Professional Development camp days during the school year as needed
- Work closely with department directors and managers to ensure department and program needs are met
- Develop and maintain cooperation and openness, and work collaboratively with others to achieve University Settlement objectives
- Recognize department and/or community needs/trends and develop appropriate methods to respond
- Maintain an organized and clean environment
- Ensure that all community centre rules, policies, and guidelines are adhered to in the program
- Other duties as assigned

**SALARY/RATE**:$23.27 per hour

**SCHEDULE**: Various days, Monday through Friday between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Hours will be determined by your availability and suitability for the program.

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, satisfactory to University Settlement is a requirement of this position.
