**Responsibilities**:
PRIMARY PURPOSE

Manages the operations, maintenance and inspection, including servicing and testing of electrical equipment in CMBC Rectifier Stations. Ensures the CMBC’s rectifier stations and underground DC feeder cables achieve a high level of availability and are maintained in a state of good repair through effective planning, scheduling and supervision of work to be performed.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides direction and leadership to employees engaged in activities, such as operation, maintenance and inspection including servicing and testing of electrical equipment in CMBC Rectifier Stations. Participates in the selection, training, and performance management of employees and the maintenance of safe work practices, recommending operating procedures when appropriate. Plans, prioritizes and schedules work to be performed by employees and outside contractors, including repairs, inspections, tests and regular maintenance of rectifier stations and associated underground feeder cables to minimize disruption of power supply to trolley service.

Participates in the design of station components and layout. This includes preparing/recommending rectifier station design layout and equipment specifications and participating in Project Team meetings on planning the projects and evaluating the tenders; identifying and designing special rectifier station equipment/components requirements; reviewing and recommending components submitted for product approval; overseeing acquisitions and conditions assessments of various pieces of equipment and identifying non-inventory items required for overall maintenance.

Manages projects of varying scope. Participates in the development of project budgets, monitors expenses, identifies and corrects variances, verifies and approves invoices for payment within spending authority. Participates in determining project requirements, potential issues and appropriate solutions, and prepares cost and resource (staff, contractors etc.) estimates.

Provides supervision, when commissioning of new rectifier stations is required, by establishing work priorities and conducting status reviews to ensure project is completed on schedule and within budget; meeting and communicating with all staff, contractors and agencies to ensure project’s overall progress and to resolve issues; checking construction against “as built” drawings and conducting various tests; coordinating site availability for construction; monitoring work to ensure TOH construction safety standards are met; preparing acceptance reports.

Determines temporary overhead circuit ties to continue to power the trolley power grid while maintenance work is performed within CMBC Rectifier Stations and on underground feeder cables. Ensures all electrical work/activity done within CMBC Rectifier Stations and on underground cables in compliance with BC Safety Authority and other code/regulatory requirements and must supervise such activity and ensure electrical workers are qualified and trained.

Participates in the local Trolley Overhead Safety Committee meetings. Writes Lockout and safe work procedures for Rectifier Crews.

Responds to CMBC Rectifier Station and underground cable emergency situations, providing guidance to Rectifier Crews and recommending action to neutralize the situation and make safe. Provides advice to City fire and Emergency crews attending the scene regarding electrical hazards and the location and type of hazardous materials on site.

Participates in the selection, training and performance management of employees and/or contractors and establishes/approves safe work practices, recommending operating procedures as appropriate.
