The Trade Development Supervisor, Electrical reports to the Director, Trades Workforce Development and is responsible for workforce planning, training and development, and improving people management practices for trade personnel. This role provides trades-specific input and knowledge to shipyard operations and influences primarily by coaching General Supervisors and Area Managers, recommending solutions or corrective action plans. This position requires regularly liaising and collaborating with Trade Managers, Human Resources, HSE, and Quality & Accuracy Control.

**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.**

**What you’ll do**
- Assists with identifying appropriate workforce planning and works with planning teams to ensure accurate workforce plans are developed.
- Provides trade-specific advice and training for all employees.
- Identifies training and development needs for General Supervisors and trades employees.
- Provides performance feedback on General Supervisors, Chargehands and Apprentices as required, in partnership with Area Managers and/or SOC Managers.
- Conducts root cause analysis for trade barriers slowing down production or causing quality concerns downstream in production.
- Reviews performance data, solicits feedback from trades and selects target processes for trade specific process development.
- Ensure trades workers adhere to regulatory procedures and standards (ABS/DNV/Lloyds, etc.) and statutory bodies regarding inspections, tests, and compliance with class survey and statutory requirements.
- Responsible for keeping up-to-date on new trade technology, certifications, methods and procedures; maintains and develops training material accordingly.
- Develops processes and procedures for quality installations, data collection, data distribution, data analysis and corrective action plans.
- Facilitates “cross” SOC quality process issues and ensure resolution/communication feedback.
- Establishes equipment protection policies and procedures in conjunction with Director, Facilities and Services.
- Leads various workplace investigations including post-incident, respect in the workplace, and general misconduct.
- Supports General Supervisors with personnel management including advising on appropriate corrective actions, promoting consistency of absence management and disciplinary processes, and overseeing completion of Drug & Alcohol Checklists.
- In collaboration with Ability Management, supports General Supervisors in identifying appropriate assignments for employees requiring accommodation.
- Participates in Grievance, Union Management, and Collective Bargaining meetings, as required.
- Leads by example and demonstrates Seaspan’s Core Values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**What you’ll bring**
- Red Seal Certification in Electrical and qualifications for performance and inspection of work. Multi-ticketed is an asset.
- Minimum 6 years of related work experience in an industrial maintenance environment, or advanced education in a related field with 4 years related work experience.
- Minimum 2 years supervisory and employee relations experience in a unionized environment.
- In-depth knowledge of production responsibilities specific to shipbuilding (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging).
- Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
- Time management and organization skills with a demonstrated commitment to follow-up and follow-through.
- Ability to motivate others, lead change, have difficult conversations, and administer discipline when necessary.
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships and lead others towards a shared goal.
- Strong conflict resolution and negotiations skills to resolve disagreements quickly and effectively, bringing a problem-solving attitude to conflicting approaches.
- Appreciation and understanding of the value of diversity within a team.
