**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Students, the Dean provides academic leadership and management to the newly-created Faculty of Community & Health. The incumbent will lead the development of a faculty that is home to Seneca’s community care-focused programs, overseeing the schools of Community Services, Early Childhood Education, Health Sciences, Public Safety & Behavioural Studies and Recreation & Environmental Studies.

The Dean will work with chairs and colleagues across Seneca to build and maintain a positive reputation for the faculty, and a establish a clear mandate and direction built on the achievement of shared educational objectives. The Dean will focus on the issues that are current and relevant to student needs and workplace expectations, as well as responsive to the mission and strategic direction for Seneca, as articulated in The Next: A Strategic Plan for Seneca Polytechnic.

The Dean will work as a member of the senior academic team in the development and implementation of annual and longer-term academic operational plans that address both immediate and longer-term priorities in maintaining program strength and developing new programs to meet community and industry needs.

**Responsibilities**:
**Academic Leadership and Strategic Planning**
- Provides academic leadership in the faculty and ensures that the current and future educational needs of students are met
- Fosters an environment that contributes to the development of cross-disciplinary learning activities, community partnerships and work integrated learning opportunities;
- Offers project leadership on behalf of the Vice-President, Academic and Students through program evaluation and development and stakeholder engagement;
- Facilitates effective communications within the faculty, encouraging active participation in student recruitment, decision-making and support for school, faculty and institutional initiatives.

**Industry Partnerships**
- Develops and maintains external partnerships with community organizations and industry to investigate future development opportunities, growth for the school, placement for students, work-integrated learning, etc.

**Student Success**
- Ensures that learning outcomes conform to Seneca’s standards of excellence, provincial legislation and accreditation standards;
- Evaluates and recommends the need for modification of current courses and programs and the introduction of new courses and programs to reflect community need, employment opportunities, changing technology, market influences and student demand.
- Projects student enrolment targets and determines the positioning of programs to match labour market trends;
- In collaboration with chairs, monitors the teaching and learning process for all programs within the faculty.

**Resource Management: Human, Financial**
- Provides leadership in human resource management and development so that student success is achieved;
- Recruits, selects and develops employees in keeping with established competencies and Seneca’s strategic direction;
- Manages all staff performance related activities including performance reviews, professional development and understands relevant collective agreements and related employment laws, such as Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, etc.
Supports, coaches and mentors employees; mediates second level disputes involving employees or students, as required

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- A minimum of a master’s degree in a field related to the faculty; if education is in another field of study, state how it is related

**Experience**
- Minimum of twelve (12) years’ related experience with progressive levels of responsibility, including several years in a leadership role, preferably obtained within an education environment.

**Skills**
- Strategic and operational planning experience is required
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering academic excellence and student success;
- Effective communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to consultation in the resolution of problems or in the identification of opportunities;
- Well-developed public relations and relationship-building skills;
- Ability to motivate and inspire employees to high performance;
- Good judgement and the ability to work in a fast paced, multi-cultural/lingual/able academic environment, virtually and in-person.
