**Unit Profile**:
The Nephrology and Technical Patient Care Manager provides oversight for the Nephrology Program and Technical Program and provides guidance for nephrology staff to ensure that the day-to-day operations function properly. The Nephrology and Technical Patient Care Manager is involved in all technical and various clinical aspect of hemodialysis, home dialysis, and peritoneal dialysis. This oversight includes all technical aspects of the program and also operational activities such as budget and human resources management; developing program specific strategic goals, such as volumes and capital planning. The Nephrology and Technical Patient Care Manager ensures that all health care professionals within his/her program function within the Standards of Practice as defined by the appropriate regulatory body. The Nephrology and Technical Patient Care Manager must also collaborate with the other Nephrology Patient Care Managers, Nephrology Director, and Medical Director.

**Responsibilities**:

- Mentoring and coaching Regulated Healthcare Professionals, Charge Techs, Technologists, and Renal Assistants
- Managing the recruitment, selection, retention and termination of staff within the approved budget guidelines.
- Developing and implementing appropriate orientation programs for new staff.
- Evaluating staff training needs on an ongoing basis.
- Identify, source, and assess supplies and materials
- Fostering effective employee and labor relations through knowledgeable interpretation and implementation of hospital policies, ORN and dialysis standards.
- Completing and authorizing appropriate Payroll and Human Resources documentation within timelines.
- Directing practices and processes to ensure excellence in patient care delivery in accordance with -MOHLTC, Ontario Health, ORN, Accreditation Canada, and all other applicable regulations and legislation, as well as providing all mandatory reports.
- Ensuring excellence in patient care and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes -that include planning, quality monitoring, patient safety, and risk avoidance.
- Establishing key performance indicators and monitors against goals and outcomes, making course -corrections as required
- Sets effective strategies in managing resource planning, financial allocations and performance -measurement.
- Overseeing capital and non-capital equipment and supply purchases for the programs.
- Ensuring the safe and effective daily operations of the technical portion of the hemodialysis unit and the water treatment system.
- Sources/orders parts and products required for the technical aspect of dialysis.
- Prepares staff scheduling.
- Attends/ participates in unit meetings/ activities and supports the mission statement, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization

- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- 5 or more years’ previous experience in a leadership role within hospital sector
- Demonstrated competence in health management
- Must possess an in-depth knowledge of dialysis and water treatment equipment.
- Experience in leading a diverse group of professional staff with both common and competing needs.
- Demonstrates excellence in interpersonal, communication, coaching, mentoring and team building skills that facilitate positive interactions among all members of the interdisciplinary health care teams.
