Under general direction performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of the technical details. The MRI technologist will be responsible for day to day MRI scanning using a variety of MRI specific equipment. The Radiological Technologist will adhere to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and department /unit established procedures at all times.

Within this role the Radiological Technologist is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the KHSC strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Applies principles of safety management to patients and to employees and the public when entering the magnetic field;
- Screening of all individuals prior to entering magnetic field;
- Positions and transfers patients as necessary in the performance of duties;
- Practices sterile techniques;
- Competent in all aspects of MRI imaging including but not limited to: neuro, MSK, abdo-pelvic, breast imaging and biopsy, cardiac, conscious sedation and general anesthetic MRI procedures
- Documenting all cases and forwarding to PACS for radiologist review and reporting;
- Organizes and coordinates emergent or priority 1 patient procedures within the magnet when needed;

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Must have successfully completed a graduate certificate in MRI technology;
- Must be registered with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario
- Technically proficient with MRI equipment and coils;
- Familiar with HIS/RIS and PACS systems;
- Familiar with Power Injectors;
- Certified and competent with contrast media injections;
- The individual must be able to organize and deal with competing priorities on a regular basis;
- Turn-around times must be as short as possible to meet the patient’s needs;
- Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently;
- Evidence of strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is essential.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with all types of people.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
