**Job Description**:
We are seeking a Casual Clinical Laboratory Geneticist to join a vibrant, collegial, and respected team in the Regional Genetics Program, based at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This position will report to the Laboratory Director. This is a clinical laboratory position with academic and teaching responsibilities. Renumeration will be determined by years of experience.
The Regional Genetics Program at CHEO provides diagnostic testing, counselling, and therapeutic services to individuals and families dealing with genetic conditions. We serve a population of approximately 1.4 million in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario. Our Program includes a director, 8 full-time and 3 part-time physicians, 6 PhD clinical laboratory scientists, 20 MSc certified genetic counsellors, a laboratory manager, a genomic specialist and two genome analysts, 22 administrative and clerical personnel, and a large number of technologists and technicians in our Genetic Diagnostic Laboratory, which provides both molecular and cytogenomic testing. Our lab is accredited by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics. Our mandate is to provide clinical and laboratory services through all stages of life (preconception, prenatal, pediatric and adult) and we strive to provide answers for every family at all stages of life. We are home to thriving postgraduate teaching programs (RCPSC residency in Medical Genetics & Genomics and CCMG fellowships in Biochemical Genetics, and Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics), and strong research programs across multiple domains of genetics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpretation and review of genetic and genomic data, including report writing and sign out of molecular and/or cytogenetic cases
- Compilate and evaluate of laboratory data to assess utilization, efficiency and productivity
- Participate in regional, provincial and national committees related to laboratory operations and to regulatory standards
- Develop, evaluate, and implement new technologies and clinical tests.
- Horizon scan regarding clinical testing standards, test menu and testing strategies.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of data generated and work performed, to prepare data for presentation and publication, and to participate in the training of laboratory staff, trainees, and students at CHEO and the University of Ottawa.
- Participate in Quality Control, Quality improvement and Quality Assurance programs to support the effective operation of the clinical laboratory.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
- A Ph.D. degree with experience in genetics or genomics, including publications in these fields. (Essential)
- Expertise in both Cytogenomics and/or Molecular Genetics as a Fellow of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) or equivalent (Essential) (Dual certification is considered an asset)
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and a team player with a high degree of independence and professionalism to provide high-level clinical laboratory genetics expertise. (Essential)
- Experience in administration and leadership will be a valued strength.
- Expertise in genome sequencing, cancer genomics, laboratory automation, and clinical bioinformatics (Essential)
- Thorough knowledge of the laboratory regulatory environment (Essential)
- Bilingualism (French / English) (preferred)
