Yard / Terminal Planner

We are currently looking for a dynamic **Yard / Terminal Planner** for St. John’s Terminal. Reporting to the Pier Superintendent, the Yard/Terminal Planner will perform duties associated with accurately planning the terminal movement, tracking equipment and productivity and related duties. This position will liaise with Inland Operations, Customer Service, Maintenance and Pier Operations to meet operational objectives.
**Tasks and responsibilities**
- Ensures all aspects of the yard and vessel planning by utilizing the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and other Oceanex systems by:
- Ensuring that data quality used in the TOS system and other related systems is always of the highest integrity and maintained in a timely fashion.
- Responsible for all aspects of terminal planning and assisting with vessel planning.
- Responsible for the management of the Terminal Yard Strategy and initiatives that will prepare the terminal for future growth and improvement.
- Continually monitor personnel and equipment to achieve efficiencies wherever possible.
- Adopting alternative solutions when necessary to adjust to changing situations, priorities, unresolved situations, delays or unexpected events.
- Reporting on issues, variances & work completed and not completed.
- Tracking and recording relevant KPI’s and other reporting duties.
- Manages the flow of information and communication through all service requests, priorities and from internal/external clients to the pier operations team to achieve a superior level of service by:
- Ensuring the escalation and notification of work done/not done to all affected internal clients.
- Maintaining and updating relative information in a daily operations document.
- Regular status reporting.
- Acts in accordance with Oceanex’s policies, processes, and safe work procedures as well as communicates ongoing challenges with all stakeholders. Reinforces quality and safety as a fundamental priority and conducts ongoing performance and safety by:
- Ensuring all safety procedures are being followed.
- Ensuring that all containers and blocks are stowed in accordance, inventoried and in good order.
- Collaborating with Maintenance that equipment is in good working order & reporting on bad order variances and estimated time of repair.
- May be called upon to provide operations coverage when required.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- Post Secondary education or equivalent combination of transportation/logistics experience and education;
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role;
- Previous relevant experience working in a safety critical environment;
- Previous supervisory experience in a unionized environment would be considered an asset.
