Summary*
Under the direction of the **Maintenance Manager**, the **Maintenance Helper **is responsible for maintaining the exterior of the hotel. This position also supports and assists the maintenance shift worker and the manager with their task, installation or repairs if needed. While the position doesn’t require a license or certification, this position must be handy and skilled and knowledgeable with maintenance tools and equipment. This position may transition to Maintenance Shift Worker at the discretion of the Maintenance Manager.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
- Prioritize maintaining the exterior of the hotel esp. during the winter season
- Able to efficiently clear the snow plus sand/salt from front driveways, sidewalks and parking lots by using the materials and equipment available from the hotel.
- Moves material to and from storage and production areas, loads docks & delivery vehicles by forklift, hand and other equipment.
- Receives written or oral instructions for work assignments and determines applicable material and equipment needs.
- Help set up equipment or setup machines if needed or support team
- Assist with maintenance and hotel repairs or needs with internal or external resources.
- Provide manual labour assistance on various tasks and assignments
- Work alongside contractors as required
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
- Follows and implements all Occupational Health and Safety procedures
- Work a variety of shifts, including days, nights and weekends

**Education, Qualification and Requirements**
- Minimum 1-year experience in general facility cleanliness and safe work practices
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is an asset
- Vocational training is considered an asset in carpentry, plumbing, electrical etc.
- Must wear a hotel-issued uniform and own proper shoes (Steel toe boots)
- General experience using various hand tools is required
- Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing in English
- Willing to perform repetitive tasks
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Able to create alternative solutions to problems
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
- Maintains peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas.
- Able to deal with people diplomatically and professionally at all times
- Able to work with a team, however, stay motivated individually when required.
- General First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Pool Certification, and other Health & Safety training is an asset
- As a condition of employment, associates are to have a criminal record check prior to their first day of work

**Work Environment**
- This position can be physically demanding, requiring frequent standing and walking.
- Ability to tolerate exposures to heat, cold and water
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, there may be stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching and crouching.
- Must be able to physically climb ladders or crawl into awkward spaces
- Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment.

**Hours of Work**
- The hours of work for this position will vary depending on operational requirements but will include day, evening and late night, as well as weekends and holidays.
