**Position Title**: Material Planner, Chemicals Department: Material Planning

**Reports To**: Material Planning Manager Location: Rexdale

Position Summary
This position is responsible for purchasing packaging materials for all Rexdale plants and tracking changes during the process.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Review MRP messages daily, to identify actions required to meet changing scheduled requirements.

**2. Take actions as identified above including**:
1. Place, cancel or change purchase orders
2. Expedite or de-expedite deliveries
3. Review supplier confirmations and update P.O. with comments
4. Consistently meet the scheduled requirement
5. Advise Planning and other departments affected via MOC (Manufacturing Order Changes) Process if unable to meet scheduled requirements before short term schedule or as soon as you are aware of issues
6. Address issues identified in the daily and / or long term scheduling meeting or as highlighted from weekly Supplier inventory reports
7. Arrange pick-up of materials from Suppliers, where applicable. Work with Inbound team for freight execution
8. Work with vendors, customers, and internal departments, to meet and execute production plan.
3. Maintain current and accurate purchasing information in the computer system and/or on file with emphasis on:
1. P.O. commitments and status
2. Item Branch, purchase price information, supplier’s lead-time etc.
3. Specifications changes
4. Certificate of analysis / Certificate of origin control
5. Supplier specification sheets and M.S.D.S.* (Material Safety Data Sheets) - Chemical Buyers only
6. Price changes; advise to price maintenance group for system amendment and notify buyer customer lead.
7. Maintain and update B2B information, i.e. correct supplier contact information.
4. Minimize inventory levels as measured by excess, Inventory turns, Obsoletes and carrying cost by:
1. Planning P.O. quantities to match requirements as closely as possible, relative to purchase cost targets and minimum order requirements.
2. Adjusting P.O. price, quantities and delivery dates as requirements change
3. Addressing excess and obsolete inventory monthly.
4. Addressing Rejections within 3 days; return supplier related rejects in a timely manner, using DN process. Address customer related reject with customer service representative.
5. Review and action materials on the expiry report, at least on a monthly basis
5. Obtain material costs and prepare sales quotations as directed, in an accurate and timely manner.
6. Immediately address supply issues, additional costs and corrective actions to Suppliers in the event of late deliveries, short shipments or quality rejections and complaints. Follow through to closure. Discuss major issues with the Manager.
7. On a routine and ongoing basis, participate in Vendor performance management of targeted Suppliers by:
1. Supporting performance measurement
2. Participating in routine performance review meetings
8. Pursue cost saving opportunities with support of Manager.
9. Work with Team Leader to resist price increases by seeking deferral, reduction and/or cancellation.
10. Stay current on market intelligence such as changes to supply/demand relationships, process improvements, labour negotiations and raw material supply issues through periodical reading, supplier meetings and visits. Communicate findings to Internal and External Corporate Team.
11. Work with Manager to develop and achieve department’s objectives as expressed in the Strategic and Business plans.
12. Other duties as directed.
13. Promote Health and Safety and Continuous Improvement philosophy.
14. Observe Purchasing Code of Ethics.
15. Promote good Customer and Supplier relations, internal and external, and deliver good quality work.
16. Active involvement in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
17. Perform duties per GMP and customer requirements

**Qualifications**:
1. High School diploma. Post-secondary education an advantage.
2. 3 or more years’ experience in purchasing an asset particularly if chemical purchasing experience pertaining to consumer products such as personal care, pharmaceutical, and/or household cleaning products.
3. P.M.A.C. involvement an asset.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Good mathematical skills.
6. Solid working knowledge of MRP and computerized inventory control, preferably JD Edwards or comparable enterprise system such as SAP. Experience with Microsoft Excel; Word; and other comparable software an asset.
7. Sound work discipline and organizational skills.
8. Able to work with other departments such as customer service, planning, production, technical, inventory, finance, and thrive in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
9. Experience with purchasing materials and importing to Canada from other countries such as US an asset.
10. Related experience with contract manufacturers, chemical manufacturers, distributors, or companies involved in manufacture of consumer products an asset.
