**About the Opportunity**

The Toronto Railway Museum is looking for an organized, hardworking, dependable person to work as a Mechanical Ride Maintenance Technician. The Mechanical Ride Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the upkeep of the museum’s miniature railway system. This includes all of the miniature locomotives, rolling stock, and the miniature rail track system. The Technician will work alongside experienced technical volunteers, seasonal operations staff, and management to respond to operational repairs as they arise and perform preventative maintenance. The Technician’s work is integral to the operational success of the Toronto Railway Museum, and will be valued accordingly. The technician must be a team player and can integrate to the work environment to ensure its success.

This is a part-time year-round position with flexible scheduling depending upon the seasonal needs of the museum. During peak operations in the summer months (June - Labour Day), the technician will be expected to work three days a week (22.5 hours in total). For the remainder of the year, the technician’s schedule will be reduced to 1 day per week (7.5 hours per week). The museum operates year-round on a set schedule (open to the public Wednesday through Sunday), so you must be willing to work on weekends on occasion. You will be assigned a stable schedule, working from 9:30am to 5:30pm, and will have set, consecutive days off.

As a Mechanical Ride Maintenance Technician, you will engage in the following responsibilities on a daily basis. Activities include, but are not limited to:
**Responsibilities**
- Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on the museum’s small fleet of small gasoline engines and wheeled equipment; this work includes but is not limited to:

- Daily inspection of Inspecting equipment and track for deficiencies/defects and maintain a log of these, including any corrective actions taken or need to be taken.
- Ensure that mechanical systems are prepared (i.e. lubricated, oiled, etc.) and ready for daily usage by operations staff
- Follow appropriate channels to communicate maintenance defects with management; management will assist the technician by coordinating the requisition of supply materials and personnel support
- Ensure that all work areas are organized, clean and stocked up on supplies to fulfill the responsibilities of the role
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules on designated railway equipment.
- Work in both indoor workshop and outdoor public settings
- Adhere to all safety procedures and report any safely related problems to the Management Team
- Collaboratively demonstrate the correct operation of museum equipment and related railway system infrastructure as needed
- Instruct staff and volunteers on the use of and care for the miniature railway system.
- Coordinate with museum management to requisition assistance from restoration volunteers and external contractors as needed.
- All other duties as assigned by the Management Team.

**We are looking for the following qualifications**:

- Experience in the repair and maintenance of small gasoline engines and wheel bearing systems is required
- Experience with electrical systems is an asset, but not required
- Enrolled in or graduate of related trades post-secondary programs.
- Available to work a set schedule for the duration of the contract.
- Good basic knowledge of hand tools, machine shop, precision measurement and hydraulics.
- Must be able to work independently and troubleshoot equipment.
- Good communication skills.
- Must be a self-starter.

- **Problem solving**: The technician will receive instruction and tasks from the museum’s Management Team but will be expected to work without direct supervision.

Compensation for this position is $20/hour.
