**JOB SUMMARY**

The Neecheewam Mental Health Clinician reports to the Program Manager and is responsible for providing support to individuals and groups. They will assume a leadership role in assessment, treatment planning, staff education, responding to crisis, and documentation. The Mental Health Clinician demonstrates a commitment to holistic practice that focuses on trauma-informed care and increasing competencies. The Mental Health Clinician works within a multi-disciplinary team providing collaborative support to self-referred female identifying youth between the age of 13 - 17 who may be struggling with mental health and substance-use concerns and who are at-risk of, or currently being sexually exploited. The Trauma Informed Specialist demonstrates a commitment to holistic practice that focuses on trauma-informed care.

Duties and responsibilities are carried out within a trauma-informed and relational framework that promotes Neecheewam’s models of care including Therapeutic Conflict Solutions, Daily Life Events, and the Circle of Courage® values. All duties are performed within a team environment that focuses on establishing collaborative and trusting relationships with one another and with program participants, while providing culturally competent services and ensuring client safety, choice and control.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Use evidence-based, strengths-based, trauma, resilience and culturally informed holistic, youth and family-centered practices
- Provide individual and group therapy as required
- Provide ongoing case management and support to current and past residents
- Use a wide range of assessment/learning and listening tools to engage residents
- Monitor resident goals and outcomes through ongoing assessment and documentation
- Liaise with community agencies regarding issues relevant to client needs and identify and develop partnerships in the community
- Provide consultation and clinical oversight to staff regarding specific therapeutic service
- Provide ongoing education to staff around assessment tools and clinical practices
- Participate in mental health program planning and development within the team
- Provide follow-up and transitional services to past participants (required to travel within city limits and rural Manitoba)
- Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge on mental health and addictions supports/services throughout the Province of Manitoba, along with the development of close working relationships with these resources and service providers
- Deliver targeted education as determined by program priorities around mental health, addictions, coping skills, healthy relationships, life skills, etc. Example: therapeutic groups and supports
- Maintain awareness and understanding of current Mental Health legislation and Privacy legislation

**EDUCATION**
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science, plus a minimum of 5 years of supervised experience in a counselling environment **OR **Preferred Education of Master’s Level Degree in a Social Science, plus a minimum of 4 years of supervised experience in a counselling environment
- Knowledge and appreciation of the Indigenous Culture, Traditions and Seven Sacred Teachings. Strong knowledge of the issues affecting our children, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
- Required to be registered with the appropriate regulatory body
- Additional training and/or experience in any/all of the following would be considered an asset: Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Addictions, EMDR, Group therapy, Family Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy

**SKILLS**
