Lead Chemist - Chemist and Controlled Substances Technician

Reworld offers a turnkey solution to various industries for waste management. We simplify the management of hazardous materials, solid or liquid finished products, recyclable materials, and controlled substances, in a responsible, ecological and safe manner.

JOB SPECIFICATION

The Reworld Chemist and Controlled Substances technician participates in operations related to the two teams covered by the licenses and ensures compliance of these operations with the legislation and regulations. This position is integral to the proper evaluation and compliance of the facility's waste analysis plan.

MAIN FUNCTIONS

This person will be responsible for performing onsite laboratory and testing procedures. They will determine acceptable waste-streams and work closely with operations to ensure proper processing. We value this position as part of our facility operations team and is accountable for high quality standards and safe working conditions. Also, in collaboration with the teams, you will participate in the reception, management, processing, sorting, and handling of controlled substances. You will report to the Senior Water Treatment Technician.

MORE PRECISELY YOU WILL HAVE TO:
- Coordinate and lead activities and programs within the laboratory; manage records for all activities and programs, as necessary; provide technical support for laboratory equipment, supplies, and data analysis tools.- Ensure analysis and records are completed for all incoming samples and record results, hard copy and in computer system.- Analyze and complete bench study (treatability) on each incoming load, develop new innovations and ensure appropriate and safe management of waste materials.- Advise, guide, or direct on operational activities, and/or government, industry, or other regulatory guidelines.- Oversee inventory management such as selecting, purchasing, storing and allocation of laboratory equipment, supplies, and analysis tools.- Evaluate new samples to determine treatability; keep the laboratory clean and orderly- Comply with Reworld health and safety requirements while contributing to develop and maintain a positive health and safety culture.- Assist with laboratory projects that result in improved cost, quality, efficiency, or other general process improvements.- Perform general laboratory and housekeeping duties including report analysis results and coordination with production personnel.- Perform various technical duties in support of the laboratory, sales and operations teams.- Assist with discrepancies of incoming and outgoing materials.- Perform routine sample preparation and analyses employing ICP, GC, Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter and other instrumentation.- Maintain accurate analysis, maintenance, and production records.- Review analytical reports and ensure that outgoing materials meet disposal site parameters.- Provide assistance in Emergency Spill Response (ER)- Manage the receipt, destruction and disposal of cannabis, or precursor shipments.- Prepare the documentation needed prior to a cannabis or precursors delivery to comply with the regulations.- Manage the throughput of precursors, and cannabis as soon as they arrive at our facilities.- Ensure the storage of cannabis and precursors in accordance with the various Health Canada regulations.- Help customer to meet requirements for cannabis and precursors, participate in audits and site visits.- Collaborate in taking a physical inventory of cannabis products received. Accurately identify and list discrepancies during inventory.- Participate in the physical destruction of cannabis.- Manage communications between Reworld Kitchener and Health Canada, including managing any on-site visits or audits.- Perform other duties as assigned.

To perform these functions, the Chemist and Controlled Substances technician must meet Health Canada requirements to obtain alternate qualified responsible person (AQPIC) accreditation for cannabis.
