Role Purpose

This role will report to the General Foreman - Mining - and will ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the drill & blast plan, with a focus on safety, optimisation and standards.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Accountabilities:

- Safety:_

Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by:

- Promote and maintain a culture of ‘safe production’ by compliance with company safety systems, policies, procedures, accountabilities, standards and Mine Operations New Safe Behaviours
- Ensure all incidents, near miss and hazards are reported and recorded in CHESS; are investigated and closed out in a timely manner
- Utilise risk management tools (JSEA or FRA) and critical control management tools (FCCC)
- Display visible felt leadership in the field by engaging with direct reports
- Formulate a daily plan to check in on each work area, spot check hazards and discuss controls with personnel, be present and available in the field, work with senior members of the team to ensure sufficient field coverage during Meeting Times, Shift Change, Breaks and when new or ad hoc tasks are being completed
- Fulfil statutory obligations as a drill & blast supervisor as per the Health Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia
- Uphold open pit standards and procedures. Identify hazards & remediate as required
- Comply with Red Chris standards, procedures, policies, and government legislation
- Technical Accountabilities:_
- Ensure safe, best practice drilling & blasting activities are undertaken
- Ensure the desired quality and quantity of blasted material is produced in line with mine plans
- If established onsite, manage production drilling contractor. Manage explosives supplier
- Control explosives, accessories, and drilling consumables inventory
- Balance workload and make decisions in consultation with other stakeholders to achieve safe & efficient outcomes as dictated by bi-weekly and monthly plans
- Engage technical staff when required to undertake weekly and day to day operational tasks
- Participate and engage technical staff in the bi-weekly mine planning strategy sessions
- Ability to involve others throughout a decision-making process to obtain better information, generate alternatives and ensure buy-in to the resulting decision, and builds support in doing so
- Monitor drill & blast progress against the bi-weekly plan and take corrective action to achieve compliance in consultation with the technical team
- Identify gaps in processes, procedures and standards, remedy if possible and complete change management as required
- Accountable to make safe decisions based on available information even when faced with pressures like lack of time, uncertainty, or ambiguity
- Drilling & blast crew optimisation via effective crew management & identifying / implementing business improvement projects
- People Accountabilities_
- Supervise the team of drillers & blasters (both Newcrest and contractor employees)
- Provide leadership to team members through career development, coaching, training, performance management and
- leading by example- Engage the team to actively promote hazard awareness and promote the reporting of near misses
- Display behaviour consistent with Newcrest’s Code of Conduct & Values
- Manage team members time and attendance and annual leave
- Ability to lead an inclusive culture where people can openly and freely share their opinions
- Ability to recognise and reward behaviours in the team that support the strategy and values of the business
- In addition to the above responsibilities and accountabilities, the Drill & Blast supervisor will be required to undertake all, and any- other tasks as directed by the General Foreman - Mining.Qualifications & Experience:

- Minimum 5 years open pit experience.
- Hold a valid open pit shift boss ticket.
- Hold an open pit blasting ticket.
- Previous experience in an open pit drill/blast program.
- Valid class 5 driver’s
