Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (Maternity Leave Coverage)

Job description
- Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing as well as academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.

**Location**

**Responsibilities**
- Responsible for ensuring patient identification, safety and preparation are correct prior to a scan while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Greet patient, explain forthcoming tests, position patient and generally prepares him/her for the examination.
- Observe patient during the diagnostic procedure, making note of any symptoms or changes in vital signs and summons medical aid when necessary.
- Ensure all quality control assessments are performed as required. Takes all reasonable precautions and work in compliance with related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Confirm procedures for proper equipment maintenance are completed in accordance with department standards.
- Ensure equipment and instruments are performing in an efficient and effective manner.
- Prepare and organize reports as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Education & Knowledge**
- Graduate of a formal government accredited Diagnostic Sonography Program.
- Sonography Canada qualified with at least one year experience is preferred.
- Ability to perform all types of echocardiograms on various types of equipment (Primarily GE Vivid E9, GE Vivid E90/95).
- Perform preliminary reporting on GE Viewpoint.
- Evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with excellent patient care.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, healthcare team, co-workers and hospital.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Current CPR certificate.
- Ability to travel in Calgary.
