**JOB OVERVIEW: Chief Information Officer (CIO)**
Reporting to the Vice President, Administration, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, oversight, and vision for Kwantlen Polytechnic university’s (KPU’s) Information Technology (IT) strategy to support the teaching, learning, research and administrative goals and functions of the university’s Strategic Vision and Academic Plan. The CIO is the principal technology leader for the university providing the vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology strategies and initiatives university-wide, including academic and administrative technologies and technology services.
The CIO leads and oversees all areas of information technology, including implementation of enterprise information systems and software solutions, information security, data management, systems design and development. The CIO also partners with teaching and learning to ensure strategic priorities for learning environments and learning technologies are supported and achieved. The CIO is accountable for ensuring high quality, secure and reliable delivery of IT services through monitoring systems performance and implementing improved measures, controls and processes.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or Information Technology
- A minimum of 15 years recent related experience, including both industry exposure and public sector experience.
- Post-Secondary Information Technology leadership experience is considered an asset.
- Experience leading a large Information Technology team in a unionized environment.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement multi-year Information Technology strategies and plans that direct the evolution of a large, complex organization with focus on cost effectiveness and sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain partnerships to successfully accomplish IT initiatives.
- Demonstrated leadership competencies and a proven track record of leading cross-functional technology teams in planning, project management, budgeting and process improvement.
- Demonstrated term leadership and the ability to engage and motivate employees to create high performance teams demonstrating service excellence.
