Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., a dynamic and growing company in the Aquaculture industry, is seeking to hire a permanent full-time Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator to support the coordination and administration of the day-to-day activities of the Health and Safety division of the Human Resources department and promotes the optimization and continuous improvement of the company’s Health and Safety Program.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist the OHS manager in handling daily administrative safety tasks, including monitoring Digital Action Tracking System (DATS) modules, inspections, meetings, and investigations.
- In coordination with the OHS Manager, maintain a visible presence in the field, supporting site visits, hazard assessments, workplace inspections, and incident investigations.
- Support incident investigations and near-miss evaluations, preparing reports with recommendations for preventive measures.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver safety talks, follow up on safety meeting concerns, and provide JHA support.
- Coordinate communication with departments, ensuring effective safety-related information exchange.
- Monitor the functionality of safety equipment, such as gas detectors, GPS devices, AEDs, LO/TO systems, fall protection equipment, and respirators.
- Conduct regular assessments and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and support the implementation of control measures.
- Support supervisors with the development of and/or maintenance and review of instructional documents, such as SOPs, work procedures and training documents.
- Coordinate and support management in the sourcing and supply of H&S related products, services, and PPE.
- Coordinate and facilitate safety training programs for all employees, including sourcing vendors and providing on-site support.
- Develop and deliver training programs, demonstrating the use of safety equipment, and promoting compliance with policies and practices.
- Promote the continuous improvement of training content to align with current safety requirements, certification, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage employee training registration and attendance, maintaining records in DATS (Digital Action Tracking System) and provide TAP Advancement information to HR as applicable.
- Support and coordinate the return to work and WSIB claims management processes.
- Assist with monitoring and follow-up on modified workers in the field.
- Act as a liaison with WorkSafe BC and other third-party stakeholders for employee claim management.
- Attend and monitor the Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings at the Campbell River office and GR Hatchery Committee.
- Participate in incident response and emergency preparedness activities, including the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
- Assist the OHS Manager with ensuring timely inspections, audits, certifications as required by regulatory bodies (WorkSafe BC, Transport Canada etc.)
- Support OHS Manager with reporting on compliance metrics, trends, and incidents.
- Coordinate and facilitate company vehicle lease renewals, maintenance cycles and insurance renewals with Assigned Employee Vehicles, Shared Office Vehicles, Crew Driver, Reception, HR and the Finance Department.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination with relevant departments for fleet-related matters.
- Act as the primary administrator for the Digital Action Tracking System (DATS) as it relates to H&S, the Learning Management System and training assignments for employees.
- Stay updated on applicable legislation, regulations, standards, procedures, and company biosecurity rules to ensure compliance.

Qualifications:

- Certificate or diploma from an accredited Health & Safety program and / or 2-3 years Occupational Health and Safety experience in BC;
- Experience preparing and implementing new or updated policies and procedures.
- Experience in WSIB claims management considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation Act of British Columbia, WSIB, and other relevant H&S legislation and regulatory bodies (Transport Canada etc.)
- Knowledge of provincial and federal regulation related to aquaculture an asset.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word - Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive employee information.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, time management, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
