Would you like to make a difference in someone’s life

A young woman with Down syndrome is looking for a **female** support person to assist her in her daily life. She attends the University of Lethbridge and needs one-on-one in-classroom support. She is taking one or two class per semester, 2-5 days a week; you will work closely with her family and the Inclusive Education Coordinator on campus.

She works out at the YMCA and needs someone to support her in her favourite evening fitness classes as well as the other times she volunteers in their community programs.

She also requires some in-home support, shopping, running errands and enjoying her leisure time.

Other interests include bowling, swimming, basketball, music, the movies, live theatre, and karaoke.

You will work closely with her family and other supports to implement daily schedules, create goals and monitor outcomes with the intention to build independence and cultivate social networks.

**Responsibilities**:
To assist, support and encourage goal driven activities in the home, including:

- personal self-care,
- home care management,
- personal growth and development,
- physical and mental health,
- budgeting and money management.
- Access community through a variety of goal related activities to build social networks, build skill set, gain confidence and independence while volunteering and meaningfully participating in a variety of leisure and recreational activities.
- Support and navigate student life on campus, facilitate new relationships, and participate in on-campus clubs and activities.

Qualifications/skills:
Post-secondary education and/or experience in community and/or disability services.

Excellent communication skills; written, verbal and listening.

Be patient, empathetic, outgoing, innovative, adaptable, work well independently, have strong leadership skills, be resilient, able to problem solve, experience advocating for others, and a strong understanding of modelling, coaching and positive reinforcement.

Flexible schedule.

Hours are P/T, casual and permanent with some evenings and an occasional Saturday.

You must have:

- Vehicle and valid driver’s license.
- Recent background checks including vulnerable sector.
- Minimum 3 professional references.
