Purpose
The New Brunswick SPCA is the provincial agency mandated to enforce provincial animal protection laws. Keeping animals safe is our reason for being.
Reporting to the Chief Animal Protection Officer (CAPO), you'll play an integral role in ensuring a high level of professionalism within the enforcement team. The Deputy Chief APO will provide guidance and leadership to Animal Protection Officers and Dog Control Officers by implementing Standard Operating Procedures and organizational policies in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization. The Deputy will assume all responsibilities and perform operational job functions of the Chief APO in his/her absence and/or as directed by the Chief APO and/or Executive Director.

**Key Responsibilities**:
The Deputy Chief APO will be responsible for:
**_Day-to-day Operations oversight_**
- Supervise and oversee operational support of the enforcement team to ensure consistent, timely and effective support to officers through investigative procedures and court preparation
- Oversee the document management process for enforcement files
- Collaborating with shelter staff to ensure operational needs are communicated in an effective manner
**_Training/Development_**
- Orient and provide the training of all new Officers
- Develop and oversee training programs for yearly Officer refresher training
**_Pet Establishment Licensing_**
- Lead in the management and oversight of the Pet Establishment Licensing Program.
- Assign APO’s for inspections, review paperwork, set performance targets and monitor findings
- Review the current SOP’s and provincial legislation and liaise with stakeholders to make suggestions for improved standards
**_Public Education and Awareness_**
- Working with the Executive Director, develop and implement informational programs for the public - in various forms, social media, in person and/or through a school program.
- Liaise with various stakeholders and volunteer recruitment for public engagements
**Qualifications**
- Completion of Grade Twelve (12) or equivalent.
- Completion of an Enforcement training from a recognized institution required (an equivalent combination of education and experience could be considered)
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of law enforcement or related field.
- Minumum 2-3 years experience in a supervisory role within enforcement.
- Successful completion of the NBSPCA APO training within the first 6 months of employment

- Experience in initiating, planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services
- An understanding of court proceedings
- Familiarity with case management software, Microsoft suite, excel.
- Valid NB Class 5 Driver’s license
- Clean criminal record check
**Language Proficiency**:
Written and spoken competence in English is required.
Strong French oral communication and comprehension levels are also required.
