Toronto, Canada Insert Coin Accounting Full time

**Insert Coin is Canada’s leading accounting & tax consulting firm for the video game industry**.

Although we’re an accounting & tax firm, you’d never guess it by looking at us. We’ve adopted the same corporate culture as gaming/tech companies that we work with across Canada. We’re a modern, 100% cloud-based firm that uses the latest technology stack to deliver unparalleled service to our clients.

We provide accounting, bookkeeping and tax credit consulting services to indie game studios. Over the years we’ve built a loyal, growing customer base of gaming studios, because we get their business & industry like no other firm can.

We’re not like traditional accounting firms - there’s no suit & tie, no overtime hours, and no mind-numbing dullness that permeates the typical accounting office.

That’s why we’re not looking for a traditional accountant - we want someone who hates the idea of working obscene overtime hours, dealing with stacks of paper files & antiquated software, and working your way up the corporate ladder. We believe accounting doesn’t have to be that way, and we’re setting out to prove it.

We think and work like a startup - we believe in enjoying where you work, having fun as a team, working efficiently & collaboratively, and providing a service that clients are delighted by. We need someone who embodies these same values.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Technical Knowledge - you will be the go-to reference for all tax and complex accounting questions. This means staying up to date on the latest tax rules and accounting principles, and getting the team up to speed on changes. You will also be researching new government programs such as subsidies and tax credit programs.
- Training & Supervising Staff - you will be helping new hires get up to speed with accounting & tax concepts, cloud accounting & payroll software, and our internal processes. You will also help answer any accounting & tax related questions and documenting processes in our internal knowledgebase.
- Tax Research & Advice - You won’t have all the answers all the time - we get that. Which is why you’ll need to be able to research specific tax situations or any tax or accounting-related questions that our clients may have, and provide clear helpful answers.

**What we are looking for**:

- Experience in Relevant Areas - as a CPA with at least five years of progressive experience, you must have experience supervising/training staff, reviewing their work, and dealing directly with clients. You’re familiar with full-cycle accounting, tax and payroll concepts. Bonus points if you’ve familiar with Xero and QBO.
- Corporate Tax - we’re looking for someone who lives & breathes corporate taxes. You’ve filed hundreds of T2s, can picture Schedule 1 in your sleep, and know the codes for each line item in the GIFI (okay, not really, but that would be cool). You see each new tax situation as a challenge to be overcome and don’t mind getting your hands dirty with the ITA when needed. Bonus points if you have knowledge of SR&ED & multimedia tax credit programs.
- Communication - while you may have enjoyed all your tax courses, most of our clients didn’t, so they value someone who can talk to them at their level. You should be able to leave any accounting or tax jargon at the door and explain things like a normal human. As the go-to tax reference, you’re approachable and provide clear direction to the team.
- Attention to Detail - As an accountant, sure you care about numbers. But not just on the surface level; when you see something off, you’re the type to dig into issues and resolve them instead of brushing them over. You see the value in providing a clean set of books for our clients. To us, our trial balances and statements are works of art.
- Tech-Savvy - since all our work is done on the cloud, you should be comfortable with learning and using web apps, training new staff and clients on these apps. You’re always exploring the latest tech out there, and can talk to clients about tech on their level. In other words, your tech skills are the opposite of a Boomer’s.
- Self-starter - As a manager-level role, you require mínimal supervision and take responsibility for getting your work done, while also ensuring others are on track. We’re not big on micro-management, so you decide how and when the work gets done. You also know where to look or whom to ask when you don’t know.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
