- Come start your career hereAs a part of the Corporate Planning & Performance Team in the Finance & Asset Management Business Unit, the Corporate Planning Policy Intern will provide essential policy, research, and engagement support to the numerous projects that are currently planned for the next two fiscal years (2024/25 and 2025/26), including the development of the municipality’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.
- Corporate Planning & Performance is responsible for coordinating municipal strategic and business planning processes, and leading and supporting performance measurement and continuous improvement projects.
- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct research and analysis to support the development of HRM’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, including jurisdictional scans and interviews as required.
- Support the preparation of briefing and education materials for engagements with business units, Regional Council, and key stakeholders.
- Support public engagement processes required to inform the Strategic Plan development, including preparation of materials and documentation and consolidation of feedback received.
- Contribute to the development of awareness and capacity building tools and initiatives related to the Strategic Plan.
- Support the development and production of the Strategic Plan and associated strategic planning processes.
- Corporate Planning- Conduct research and analysis to support the development of key corporate planning projects.
- Support the collection, analysis, and synthesis of information from the 2024 Resident Survey (summer 2024).
- Support continuous improvement projects by providing research and analysis support, providing project management support as required and providing business analysis support as required.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences.
- A Master’s degree in Public Administration is an asset.
- Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the policy and development process is required.
- Strong research and analysis skills.
- General understanding of municipal budget processes.
- General understanding of municipal government structure.
- Awareness of public consultation and engagement processes.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, coordinating, tracking and managing multiple activities.
- Business analysis skills considered an asset.
- The ability to work independently, carry out work within tight timelines, and manage competing priorities.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word; Outlook; PowerPoint; and Excel;

- Temporary up to 18 months
- HOURS OF WORK: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 35 hours per week however flex options to work outside of these hours under a hybrid work model may be available
- SALARY: $50,000 per year
