Edmonton, Canada Schizophrenia Society of Alberta Iris Court Full time

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, owns and operates two housing facilities for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. As the operator we provide 3 meals and 2 snacks daily to our tenants as part of our accommodation license. The Cook reports to the Housing Manager and will be responsible for all operations of the kitchen.

**Qualifications**:

- Min 3 years dietary experience preferably in the housing/health field
- Certificate in Food Safety is required/A Journeyman Cook Certificate is preferred
- Criminal records check
- Ability to work independently at all tasks of the kitchen
- Have knowledge in kitchen cleaning processes
- Have knowledge of meal portioning
- WHIMIS/First Aid preferred

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensure all Supportive Licensing Regulations and SSA policies and procedures are adhered at all times
- Ensure a high standard of sanitation and cleanliness in the Food Service Area in compliance with Provincial Public Health Regulations, Food Safe Standards and Accommodation Standards. - Will complete the assigned tasks listed on the Daily, Weekly and Monthly Cleaning Checklists.
- Will follow the approved methods for cleaning & sanitizing as outline in Food Safety Course.
- Will operate all equipment and appliances as required by the manufacturer. - Will follow the appropriate dishwashing procedures: Scrape & Pre-rinse, Wash, Rinse Sanitize, Air Dry.
- Ensure the following hygiene practice are maintained: wear clean uniform or apron, hair should be tied back or controlled by wearing cap or Hair-net, hand washing will be performed thoroughly and frequently, finger nails are to be kept clean and well trimmed (no painted fingernails), jewelry is not to be worn. - Daily temperature checks of all refrigerators, freezers and hot holding equipment will be recorded.
- Staff will practice safe Food Storage: proper temperatures, good air circulation, and stock rotation. - Only food safe containers are to be used and all items are to be stored 6 inches off the floor. - Cleaning chemicals are to be labelled and stored in a marked and locked area separate from food and equipment.
- Report any sign of pests - Be knowledge of tenant preferences and communicate these preferences (within the dietary guidelines) during seasonal menu development.
- Ensure kitchen is operating in a professional and respectful manner - Control and develop solutions for food waste - Monitor and evaluate meal preparation and service to ensure established standards are maintained for both quality and quantity of all meals and snacks - Maintain appropriate budgetary and cost controls
- Input weekly order and maintain inventory
- Administration record keeping including: chores lists, record of meals served, temperatures, menu changes, monthly first aid checklist, staff sign in, and timesheet etc.

**Salary**: From $19.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift
- Weekends as needed

**Experience**:

- Cooking: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
