**FRAFCA Nutritional Advisor / Cook**

**About FRAFCA**:
The Fraser Valley Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association is a non-profit organization that provides a diverse range of culturally safe and supportive services to Aboriginal people in Surrey and the Fraser Valley including women impacted by violence and abuse. The Friendship Centre works from a decolonizing perspective, and as such, works to strengthen family bonds between generations and within the family. The role supports women in their choices, recognizing that Indigenous families need opportunities to heal and address inter-generational trauma.

The City of Surrey is one of 21 municipalities in Metro Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. **Position Summary**:
The Early Childhood Development (ECD) Nutritional Advisor / Cook will develop and coordinate the food and nutrition program for ECD. ECD programs and services are designed to ensure children get the best possible start in life. The work EDC food & nutrition will contribute towards the following long-term outcomes.

1. Mothers are healthy and give birth to healthy invites who remain healthy.

2. Children experience healthy early childhood development of all children and families.

3. Parents are empowered and supported to nurture and care for their children.

4. Communities support the development of all children and families.

**Your Duties**:
1. Develop curriculum for daily meals preparation using the Canada food guide.

2. Coordinate parent participation in food preparation

3. Promote healthy and hygienic procedures, in the kitchen (both in preparation and clean up)

4. Keep kitchen work area clean.

5. Coordinate elders’ participation in ECD food and nutrition program

6. Prepare daily meals/refreshments for the ECD programs and for weekly family nights.

7. Assist the ECD program manager as required.

Skills and abilities

1. Knowledge of first nations culture, traditions, and socio-economic barriers and experience working with Aboriginal clients.

2. Knowledge of Aboriginal communities, organizations, and service providers within Fraser region (Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, White rock and Delta)

3. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

4. Experience working in a non-profit sector is an asset.

5. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

6. Analytical and observational skills.

7. Culinary arts training and comfort working with on one and group sessions.

8. Ability to multitask.

9. Experience working with the demands of a diverse team environment and cross-cultural setting.

Requirements/ Qualifications

1. Minimum requirement: Cooking and/ or chef certificate and demonstrated knowledge of cooking nutritional meals; OR ab equivalent of education and related experience.

2. Must have (or be willing to obtain within 90 days) First aid certification and food safe certification.

3. Experiential assets include: a culinary art diploma.

4. Criminal record check and review is required for all employees of FRAFCA.
