Group-based Employability Skills Instructor

Calgary, Canada The Immigrant Education Society (TIES) Full time

**Purpose**

Reporting to the Manager, Employment and Career Services, the Empowering Youth through Employment (EYE-2) will be responsible to deliver employability skills, business communication, and soft skills to eligible participants through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous guidance.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission, goals and educational philosophy of TIES
- Design, develop, and maintain course content, lesson plans, and teaching materials across various delivery channels, including instructor-led and self-paced learning.
- Facilitate and administer in-person or online lessons and activities according to trainee learning needs
- Make appropriate modifications to improve program robustness
- Set and convey classroom rules and expectations
- Motivate and guide trainees to participate in problem-solving and critical thinking
- Critique and evaluate trainee performance and provide feedback for learning/attainment of course objectives
- Prepare Canadian and immigrant youths for the Canadian job market by facilitating workshops on job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, workplace culture, employment standards, and business communication.
- Identify, research and plan excursions to job fairs, networking events, and other career or employment-related workshops.
- Help students meet their short
- and long-term career goals through guidance and advice; share career resources, labour market information, labour trends, employment and work experience opportunities.
- Assist the project team in finding practicum and work placement for EYE students
- Record student attendance, prepare regular reports as needed, assist in proposal writing and update files when necessary.
- Attend internal and external meetings

Knowledge of:

- The Canadian labour market, Canadian workplace practices, job search strategies, and career development
- Alberta Employment Standards, Alberta Human Right Acts, Occupational Health & Safety and other relevant laws and regulations
- Exposure to corporate human resources best practices
- Pre-employment and essential skill development expertise including developed job search techniques; resume and cover letter development; and interviewing skills and techniques to prepare clients
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving in small and large group settings
- Adult teaching using various methodologies and techniques
- Awareness and sensitivity to diverse audiences
- Microsoft Office Suite/365 and Windows Operating Systems
- Google Education Platforms (Docs, Drive, Sheets)
- Learning Management Systems (Moodle, D2L, etc.) is an asset
- Skype, Zoom, or other VoIP tools
- ESL is an asset
- Working with youth and immigrant/ vulnerable populations

**Education and Experience**
- 3+ years experience in a similar role that is directly related to employment training or career development (equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered)
- Exposure to adult education principles gained through experiences in corporate training, program development, facilitation or group presentations
- Experience working with non-profit organizations is an asset
- Knowledge of remote teaching/learning, instructional design, assessment, and technology-enabled learning is an asset
- Flexibility to adjust lessons to students’ levels and needs
- Comfortable with using technology for teaching, e.g. Internet, skype, websites
- You have demonstrated ability working with marginalized individuals, ESL adults, developing rapport with participants, program evaluation, classroom management, individual educational and employment preparation support

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
