Sartor and Associates has been retained by **Milton Hydro Distribution Inc**., to recruit an **Operations Manager**.

**BACKGROUND**

Milton Hydro Distribution Inc. is a local distribution company, which is responsible for distributing electricity to 42,000 business and residential customers within the Town of Milton. Milton Hydro Distribution Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Milton Hydro Holdings Inc., owned by the Town of Milton. Milton Hydro has been providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity service for nearly a century.

**CANDIDATE PROFILE**

Reporting to the Vice President of Distribution Services, the Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the line operations function, ensuring all work is completed safely and in an efficient manner. The Operations Manager organizes, prioritizes and directs the work activities for overhead, substation and underground electrical work.

As a member of the Leadership Team (LT) the Operations Manager actively supports a ‘whole organization’ approach by putting sufficient focus on predicting and responding to customer needs, building an engaged employee culture, and continually seeking better solutions through productivity, technology and innovation.

The Operations Manager manages resources to ensure work scope is achieved and aligned with budgets, project plans and capital plans. The Operations Manager ensures the team has the sufficient support and tools necessary to execute activities and acts as a liaison between various internal departments.

Direct Reports to the Operations Manager: (1) Operations Line Supervisor

**DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Support and direct Supervisors in the assignment of work, crew rotation and placements and equipment and resource optimization.
- Ensure the VP Distribution Services is kept informed of emerging issues and progress on key work plans, critical business decisions, and the status of established goals & objectives.
- Support and coach Supervisors in managing day-to-day employee and labour relations issues within the department and ensure resolutions are applied consistently and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
- Manage team time and resources allowing Supervisors sufficient time and opportunity to proactively manage employee performance, attend regular crew visits, mentor trades on safe work practices and keeping mind on task, and manage inventory effectively to increase tool-time.
- Assist in the development of the Health & Safety strategy and plan execution
- In conjunction with the department lead, establish annual operational goals and objectives
- Assist in the development and monitoring of operating and capital budgets; monitor spending and redirect work as required.
- Work with other departments to create, schedule and execute the annual capital plan
- Review project plans and ensure proposed estimates and timelines are accurate, that resources are working to plan and budget.
- Ensure materials are ordered within appropriate timeframes to avoid delays in work and establish minimum inventory levels.
- Schedule and execute the annual maintenance/inspection plan.
- Provide support and leadership to reactive and emergency response planning.
- Conduct field safety audits, engage crews in dialogue relative to work being performed, monitoring crew and public safety protocols.
- Research, and put forward solutions to increase productivity, enhance worker effectiveness and support automation of processes.
- Foster employee engagement and a positive work environment through leading by example, demonstrating positive competencies, and encouraging a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**:

- Eng. / CET and/or Construction Maintenance Electrician and/or Master Electrician an asset

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 10 years experience as a Power Line Technician, Substation Electrician and/or Underground Power Cable Technician or similar background
- Minimum of 5 years in a related managerial or supervisory role
- Prior experience leading within a regulated work environment
- Prior experience with work planning, scheduling and inventory management
- Proven ability to create a safety focused work environment
- Ability to manage departmental budgets and related tracking

**Knowledge**:

- Working knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
- Familiarity with OHSA legis
