**LITERACY & LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM COORDINATOR**

**Summary**

Reporting to the Umoja Development Director and supported by a Literacy & Life Skills Program Assistant and volunteers, the **Adult Literacy & Life Skills Program Coordinator** will lead the continuing development of our popular
Adult Literacy & Life skills program to support our goal of creatively enabling the holistic socio-economic mainstreaming of newcomers to Canada.

As a 20-year-old minority founded settlement agency, we leverage our lived and learned experience to minimize the risk of socio-economic marginalization by bridging essential language, digital, communication, literacy, and other essential exposure skills gaps for our newcomer clients through our various programs. Our broad curriculum also includes essential topics such as nutrition, financial literacy, parenting, cross referrals to complementary services etc.

**Terms**

**Remuneration**

21 hours/ week. Wage to be determined and includes EI and CPP provisions with medical benefits eligibility after successful completion of 3-month probationary period

**Responsibilities**
- Conception, scheduling, promotion, implementation, and monitoring of an engaging curriculum
- Oversight of initial adult student needs and skill level assessment
- Creatively teach basic conversational and written English to newcomers to Canada
- Monitor program success and student progress and provide final evaluation at the end of each cohort
- Guide Literacy & Life Skills Assistant and volunteers
- Stakeholder engagement including participation in community of practice (CoP)
- Oversee student records
- Track daily program activities and attendance
- Cross referrals to suitable complimentary partner programs
- Prepare qualitative and narrative program reports
- Advise students on “next steps” information for those exiting the program

- Ability to work diligently under mínimal supervision
- Must be available to work on some evenings
- Versatile and with a genuine heart for community service

**Hard Skills Requirements**
- Adult literacy training or equivalent experience/competency
- An outstanding command of spoken and written English
- Outstanding writing and editing skills (English)
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills (MS Office, Windows, Mac, Web, social media)
- Multi-lingual (English, Tigrinya, Amharic, Arabic, French, Spanish, Swahili among others) is an asset

**Other**
- Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 3 years of work in relevant field or equivalent training and experience
- Experience with public or non-profit making organizations preferred
- Full driver’s license
- Criminal record clearance

**Open Dates **:Targeted latest recruitment date is January 31st, 2023

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Part-time hours: 21 per week

**Salary**: $19.00-$24.00 per hour
