Reporting to the Manager of Housing, the Mdewgaan Healing Lodge supervisor is responsible for overseeing culturally based programming at the Mdewgaan Healing Lodge, an urban residential healing lodge for mothers with their children who have experienced trauma and may be dealing with addictions and or mental health concerns. The Mdewgaan Healing Lodge is guided by the sacred knowledge that culture is healing and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the heart of downtown Toronto.
**Major Responsibilities**:
The Supervisor, Mdewgaan Healing Lodge is responsible for:
- Ensuring the residential treatment program is implemented and delivered in a manner aligned with NCFST’s cultural grounding and accountability structures.
- Ensuring programming provides culturally safe, trauma informed support related to addictions, mental health, parenting, healthy attachment and post-partum issues.
- Working in collaboration with the Manager of Housing to ensure a cohesive residential experience for participants and comprehensive direction for staff.
- Supervising a team comprising residential counsellors, case manager and support workers to ensure consistency and excellence in service delivery. Supervision includes daily programming oversight, direction and consultation, outlining and ensuring accountability in roles and responsibilities, regular meetings with staff in individual and team contexts, scheduling appropriate training and ensuring cultural engagement and safety.
- Ensuring the physical safety of staff, residents, and physical buildings.
- Providing crisis and de-escalation guidance and support as needed.
- Providing conflict resolution between staff members and community members etc.
- Coordinating admissions in conjunction with the Case Manager.
- Compile and review Mdewgaan Healing Lodge data for funding reports and ensure these are completed and submitted as per funder requirements.
- Ensure ADP timesheet information for all staff of Transition Houses is complete, accurate and submitted on time.
- Scheduling of staff for Mdewgaan Healing Lodge, including external staff as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining budgets and expenditures in ongoing consultation with the Manager of Housing.
- Observing residents during programming and providing consultation to staff in response to shifting needs and concerns of residents and assisting in managing resolutions.
- Ensuring culturally grounded programming and service delivery.
- Attend Training, conferences and funder meetings, including MCCSS, IHWS, etc.
- Rotating On-Call hours and vacation coverage with Housing Supervisory team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills**:
- MSW or related degree in addictions or mental health or equivalent and a minimum of three years relevant experience with a minimum of one year’s relevant experience working in a supervisory role.
- Significant experience in trauma-informed clinical practice is an asset.
- Experience in case management supervision.
- Experience in a residential setting supporting community members with complex needs is an asset.
- Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to wellbeing, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge.
- Connection to First Nation, Métis, Inuit communities would be considered an asset, but not required.
- High literacy in Indigenous Cultures, Urban Indigenous issues, and understand the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
- Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
- Exceptional leadership, conflict management and mediation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and organizational skills.
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and community partners.
- Detailed knowledge of housing resources, tenant rights and issues concerning the unhoused.
- Proven ability to liaise effectively with external agencies, community members and stake holders.
- Adept understanding of digital databases, project management software and communication technology.
- Effective decision maker with a track record demonstrating innovation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, promoting organizational performance and continuous improvement and the ability to promote and foster teamwork.
