**Program**: The Permanent Supported Housing sites at 7 Church St in Dartmouth and 5580 Cogswell St in Halifax are housing projects facilitated by Out of the Cold Community Association. These programs support individuals and couples who have been chronically unhoused and who experience high barriers to maintaining independent housing. Both programs offer single-room housing placements along with individualized case management and resident programming, in a low-barrier, harm-reduction focussed setting. This housing is a welcoming and intentional space that fosters a sense of home and community while still focusing on the unique, self-identified needs of the individuals we support

The 7 Church St. site in Dartmouth is equipped to support 26 residents who experience high barriers to maintaining their housing, with programming facilitated by professional support staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The 5580 Cogswell St. site in Halifax is equipped to support 38 residents who experience high barriers to maintaining their housing, with programming facilitated by professional support staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

**Population Served**: OTC Community Association provides low-barrier, people-centered support rooted in anti-oppressive & harm reduction practices. We support individuals (16+) and couples of all genders who are unhoused or precariously housed and who experience a variety of barriers to housing including poverty, criminalization, racism, homophobia, transphobia, food insecurity, inadequate access to physical & mental health supports, alcohol & substance use challenges and varying levels of ability and life skills.

The Custodian will contribute to resident and site health and safety safety by cleaning individual rooms, modular units, and the overall site. The Custodian is responsible for providing services that are high quality, consistent, and in accordance with OTC’s policies and values. All Staff are responsible for ensuring that Public Health recommendations for the COVID-19 pandemic are being followed.

**Key Responsibilities**: Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Custodian is responsible for performing cleaning and related duties for multiple small buildings on a supported housing program site housing individuals who experience high barriers to maintaining housing.

Areas of responsibility include common areas, staff offices, washrooms, hallways, entrances, laundry room and other designated site spaces, as required.
- Sweeps/dry-mops and wet-mops floors using dust mops, tools, buckets, wringers, and wet mops, as required
- Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces
- Sweep mats.
- Cleans and disinfects washroom surfaces and replenishes paper, plastic, and soap supplies
- Removes refuse from domestic size containers and transfers bagged or loose waste to exterior dumpsters.
- Transfers recyclables/organic waste to designated holding sites
- Cleans glass and polishes doors and partitions
- Washes walls and ceilings (using ladders), as necessary
- Move furniture to complete cleaning as needed.
- Replaces light bulbs, as required
- Maintains a clean work environment
- Supports and collaborates on the design and implementation of systems related to the cleanliness and safety of the facility
- Meets or exceeds the standards set by OTC for safety and cleanliness.

**Other Responsibilities**:

- Ensures that all mandatory training is up to date and checks in with the Facilities Manager if recertification or refreshers are required.
- Participates in ongoing personal and professional development
- Assists in the organization and preparation of household and program events as needed
- Attend and actively engage in team meetings as required.
- Is involved in committees as necessary

**Qualifications**
- Previous recent and related cleaning experience is required
- Reliable and punctual
- Effective written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability.
- Demonstrated initiative in starting and completing tasks.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, as a member of a team and while under pressure
- General safety and WHMIS training an asset
- Experience respectfully working in spaces with and interactions with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to respectfully navigate relationships with individuals from racially and socioeconomically diverse communities.
- Be comfortable working in spaces where people may be intoxicated, under the influence, agitated, dysregulated or experiencing a mental health crisis.
