**Job Title**:Manager, Health, Safety & Environment

**Job Summary**:The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment oversees the Safety, Health and Environment program for Tron Construction and Mining and support other Des Nedhe Group of Companies. The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment is accountable for cultivating a culture where Safety, Health and Environment are engrained as a core value with all employees.

**Reports To**: Vice President, Tron Construction & Mining

**Overall Accountability**:

- Directs the implementation of safety programs throughout Canada, maintaining compliance with applicable OHS legislation and aligned with organizational goals.
- Accountable to promote a management culture that recognizes the interdependence of environment, health, safety, quality**, **and production; integrates loss control considerations into every facet of the business.
- Establish and maintain close working relationships with operations leaders, as well as other functions and senior management to ensure alignment on safety efforts throughout the Company.
- Provide strategic direction and develop, implement and monitor HSE goals, objectives, priorities and procedures relating to the business units. Provide HSE supervision of related project sites. This entails monitoring the job site; preventing and reporting any safety deficiencies, concerns and infractions; supervising project site HSE personnel; and ensuring all parties follow the safety rules as set out in the Project Safety Plan and Tron CM Safety Management System.
- Facilitate new/existing employee orientations and annual orientations.
- Initiate, promote, implement and maintain safety and health projects and initiatives.
- Monitor changes to legislation which may impact the HSE Program.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of HSE databases as well as HSE policy and procedures.
- Update, maintain and present safety orientation and training for all new employees to ensure complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected safe behaviors within the workplace.
- Maintain and present safety orientation meetings and ongoing training for existing employees and visitors as required.
- Coordinate Joint Health & Safety Committees and distribute minutes monthly as required, and follow up on all points to ensure matters are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Provide regular and accurate statistical reports of all incidents and injuries (OHSA Non-Recordable and Recordable Injuries).
- Ensure incidents are recognized, investigated, analyzed and reported in a timely/valued manner. Assist in the development of effective corrective actions, where a deficiency has been identified, either through an incident investigation or site inspection/audit.
- Provide measures of loss and risk management improvement through incident-trend analyses, benchmarking and predictable forecasting of performance, relative to the annual business goals.
- Conduct effective hazard analysis for all work sites.
- Assist management and supervisors in ensuring all Safe Work Procedures are current and complete for all work centres within assigned jurisdiction.
- Manage return-to-work programs and WCB/WSIB claims management process.
- Participate in HSSE audit activities, whether internally or externally driven. Work with the Business and Operations Directors to review internal practice audit results, identify root causes for non-conformances, develop improvement plans, and follow up on action items with leaders within area of responsibility.
- Aligns responsibility with accountability within the HSE team and provides mentorship and guidance to the team members.
- Serves as the Subject Matter Expert regarding all Health, Safety and Environment.
- Drive the engagement of employees in safety by coaching and mentoring leaders at all levels on safety leadership.
- Coach and mentor the HSE team to develop leadership and technical competencies.
- Maintain thorough understanding of HSE regulations and requirements.
- Perform other work tasks as assigned.

**Key Competencies**:

- Demonstrate experience and understanding in successfully developing and managing an H&S management system in project management, industrial, construction and nuclear sectors.
- Business acumen, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to lead and manage multiple tasks and activities simultaneously from planning phase through to completion.
- **Qualifications**:

- 7-10 years of related work experience within the mining and/or commercial/industrial construction industry would be preferred, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.
- Current National Construction Safety Officer (NSCO) preferred.
- Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) would be preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in a discipline such as Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Studie
