**Job Title**:Clinical Counsellor (Trauma Program)
**This position reports to**:the Program Director
**1. Job Overview**:
a) This is a part-time (contract) position to provide assessment, counselling and
consultation for the clients of the trauma program.
**2. Key Responsibilities**:
a) To provide direct individual counselling to trauma program clients and assist in
group counselling.
b) To conduct assessments/testing and contribute to the design and methods of the
assessment component.
c) To provide advice and consultation on individual clients and program components to
the Program Coordinator and other staff.
d) To participate as a full member of the program team by attending meetings,
supervision and staff training.
**3. Duties Include (but are not limited to)**:
a) Counselling
b) Assessment
c) Consultation/Participating in team meetings
d) To complete all administrative responsibilities, including the maintenance of all
required reports, records, forms, files and other tasks
**4. Additional Responsibilities**:
a) Attend meetings, supervision and staff training.
b) Contribute to selected parts of the in-patient and out-patient therapeutic program.
c) To assist with discharge planning in conjunction with other program staff,
community workers and family members.
d) Contribute to the education, training, outreach, aftercare and evaluation
components.
e) To coordinate efforts with all other team members and all other components of the
trauma program.
**5. Minimum Training/Experience Requirements**:
a) Registration with a recognized provincial professional organizing body (e.g.
Registered Clinical Counsellor or Registered Psychologist).
b) Superior knowledge and understanding of trauma/PTSD and its effects and
treatment.
c) Knowledge of the impact of colonization, residential school abuses, and racism.

d) Minimum of 3 years abstinence from alcohol and mind-altering drugs; Role model
and maintain an abstinent lifestyle.**
**6. Desired Additional Training/Experience Qualifications**:
a) Cultural sensitivity and understanding of First Nations people and Traditional Ways
b) Knowledge/Experience in residential treatment and related areas such as addiction
c) Very good interpersonal and communication skills, including computer skills
d) Able to work independently as well as part of a team**
