Working with the Distribution team (including Broker Distribution, RBC, Marketing and Corporate Affairs) you will be responsible for providing an aggregated view of all existing and emerging operational risks facing our $5Bn P&C business.
This person will collaborate with Distribution leadership to develop and manage an effective and embedded risk tolerance framework for operational risks across the business unit.
This individual will provide the Distribution team with insight into the operational risks that it faces through qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

What you’ll do:
- Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Distribution Risk & Controls, the incumbent will:
- Support the AVP in completing the Risk & Controls function mandate: implementing and embedding risk and controls frameworks across Distribution.- Collaborate to develop and manage an effective and embedded risk tolerance framework for operational risks. Conduct checks to ensure that the risks are within risk tolerance and acquire evidence of this for internal and external partners. This includes maintenance of the iCare system (Aviva Canada GRC tool) and updating evidence when vital.- Review and test all controls within Distribution function to ensure they remain fit for purpose and document test cases and test results within iCare.- Partner with our business to build action plans to remediate controls and monitor progress on the control remediation e.g. spot check, distributor licensing.- Provide professional support and coordination of risk management activities through collaboration with second line risk and governance teams and Internal Audit e.g. support Financial Crime roll out plan.- Support the business in developing robust key risk indicators (KRIs) to track Distribution risk profile.- Support AVP on ad-hoc reviews as need be.- Prepare monthly risk and control update.-
- Plan and manage the control and risk assessments calendar to ensure it meets the iCare deadline while accommodating the business schedule for walkthrough testing.- Advise on process flows established by the business functions, with a particular emphasis on measuring both the adequacy and effectiveness of those processes.- Supported the AVP with appropriate documentation and evidence for internal audit issue closure.- Provide walkthrough to new risk and/or control owners with regards to the ORCM framework and iCare at a high level.- To role model the Aviva values and behaviours to drive the required culture
What you’ll bring:
- 7 or more years of experience in the property/casualty insurance industry with progressively professional experience preferably in the area of risk management.- Prior auditing experience or experience in crafting or assessing the effectiveness of processes, systems and controls with the ability to identify key business risks.- An understanding of business processes and operations, and insurance principles and practices is required.- Familiarity with OSFI guideline E-21 and other operational risk management standards will be considered an asset.- Ability and desire to inspire change in a sophisticated and innovative environment.- Positive relationship building and teamwork skills- Proficiency in project management or similar organizational skills.- Diploma or degree in business, economics, finance or other related field or equivalent experience.
