**Job Description**:
**IMPORTANT**:Immediately

**JOB SUMMARY**:under the general authority of the dean of science and the functional supervision of the department chair, to manage and participate in the assembly and control of material for laboratory work and classroom demonstrations, to assist the faculty in the preparation and presentation of same and obtain bids, organize purchases and expedite equipment and supplies for the department.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assist Chemistry Chairperson in budget planning
- Order the chemicals, glassware, equipment, etc., and keep a running inventory of same; for specified chemicals, a dates inventory will be maintained
- Operate and manage efficiently the purchase and expenditure files of the department
- Administer the department’s service contracts
- Contact salespeople, repair companies, and service people of the College
- Assist in training of other technical personnel
- Set up computerized labs
- Prepare materials including solutions and chemicals to be used in laboratories and classroom demonstrations
- Set up labs, i.e. chemicals, glassware, equipment in order to maximize efficiency and minimize hazards in the running of experiments
- Provide support and assistance to students, in collaboration with teachers
- Keep the laboratories and prep-room areas clean and in good order
- Ensure the availability of technical personnel during times of laboratory operation
- Troubleshoot labs
- Operate usual chemical apparatus and instruments
- Ensure the operational function of the laboratory and associated equipment
- Provide assistance during Chemistry Open House and other related activities
- Maintain safety equipment and post safety regulations
- Arrange for waste disposal
- Perform any other related tasks which may be assigned
- Use software for purchasing, to manage inventory, for safety, and to operate laboratory equipment.
- Maintain First Aid certification and WHIMS certification.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**

To have a college diploma in Science or an equivalent diploma in the field of Chemistry, or the appropriate equivalence as recognized by the competent authority**.**

**Specific Requirements**:

- Good knowledge of Chemistry laboratory equipment and procedures
- Good knowledge of the operation of computers (intermediate level)
- Autonomous - able to work with mínimal supervision
- Able to work collaboratively as a team member
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Intermediate English
- Basic French - oral, written and written comprehension

Preferred Assets
- Experience in educational setting
- Good level of comfort with oral French

**Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of**:

- To prepare and standardize solutions (using the balance and volumetric glassware), and to record this work in an appropriate format
- French (Intermediate comprehension)
