**JOB SUMMARY **UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE DEAN OF ARTS AND GENERAL EDUCATION, TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO FACULTY AND STUDENTS, AND ENSURE PROPER FUNCTIONING AND SAFE UTILIZATION OF ALL MACHINERY AND TOOLS IN THE 3D FACILITIES.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure the maintenance and safe operation of all machinery, tools and workshop furniture in 3D facilities
- Conduct a general inspection prior to the start of each semester and routine inspections on a weekly basis according to established procedures
- Ensure and maintain the necessary equipment and supplies for classes and assist in preparing materials as needed
- Maintain safety equipment, fully stocked first aid kits, post necessary safety regulations and keep up to date with emergency protocol, and contribute to development of safety measures in all studio areas
- Be present, and provide technical support, including set up, operation and use of 3D equipment for faculty during classes scheduled in the 3D facilities
- Provide demonstrations on safe and proper use of hand tools and power tools as requested
- Oversee and provide technical assistance to students during open studio sessions
- Communicate effectively and work with a diverse student population assisting students in troubleshooting the technical aspects of their projects
- Provide faculty with technical demonstrations of machinery as requested
- Provide and maintain recycling facilities for 3D materials in order to contribute to a sustainable practice in the 3D studios
- Assist the department in upgrading equipment through annual capital requests
- Prepare purchase requisitions, track purchase orders and pick up deliveries for 3D classroom materials and supplies
- Assist faculty and students with set-up and take down of Graduation Exhibition
- Attend departmental assembly meetings as requested
- Collaborate with faculty on the integration of safety protocols into pedagogy and course activities

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:

- College diploma in an appropriate specialty (Fine Arts, Design) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
- Certification or relevant training (if available) in operating machinery
- Valid First Aid certification
- Valid WHIMIS certification

**SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS**
- Good knowledge of wood, plastics and metal fabrication techniques and machinery
- Good knowledge of welding techniques
- Familiarity with modelling, casting and carving techniques
- Good communication skills
- Autonomous - able to work with mínimal supervision
- Three years of experience in a 3D studio environment an asset
- Formal training in art and/or design an asset

**Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of**:

- French (Basic oral)
- English (Intermediate oral, written, comprehension & production)
