**Hours of work**: Monday to Friday: 8am to 4pm

The Culinary Skills Training Program at Coast Mental Health supports young adults recovering from mental illness or facing barriers to employment. Through training, coaching, and work experience, we prepare them for the workforce or further culinary education. Social Crust Café, our social enterprise, extends this training, focusing on developing soft skills like communication and teamwork. Our mission is to empower young adults, improving their quality of life and preparing them for independent and successful careers.

**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Café/Culinary Manager, the COOK 3 is responsible for training and instructing young adults in the Culinary Program. This role involves selecting students, delivering the curriculum, assessing readiness for employment, supporting the café production when students are training, and assisting the Manager in establishing external partnerships for placements.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Collaborate with Program Support Worker to assess and select students, with final selections reviewed by the Culinary/Café Manager.
- Organize and update training materials in collaboration with the Support Worker.
- Deliver the Culinary Curriculum to cohorts running four times a year for ten weeks, including continuous training during practicum placements.
- Develop and maintain curriculum to meet student needs and industry standards.
- Conduct Chef Assessments to determine student suitability for employment and practicum placements.
- Collaborate with Café team members to offer support with production when needed.
- Provide direction, coaching, and training to practicum students, supervising daily production in the café.
- Identify external practicum partnership opportunities and collaborate with the Café Culinary Manager to secure them.
- Responsible for food orders and organization for training sessions and student lunches. Works closely with the PCA chef to ensure timely and accurate procurement of necessary food supplies.
- Performs kitchen cleaning duties, including dishwashing, and trains students in proper sanitation practices.
- Informs Culinary Café manager of any equipment or supplies the Culinary Program needs to operate efficiently.
- Monitor equipment functionality and report maintenance requirements.
- Maintain records and documentation related to student progress and goals.

**Job Qualifications**:

- Experience working with people with mental illness, guiding them towards program goals and managing mental health changes.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills, professional boundaries, and patience.
- Tact and confidentiality.

**Required Qualifications**:

- 3-5 years in a supervisory role in a professional kitchen.
- Red Seal an asset
- Passion for teaching diverse learning needs.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- WHMIS and Food Safe certificates.
- Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance.
