The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties within established procedures, in accordance with the policies of the Home, County and applicable legislations/regulations. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the Maintenance Worker demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision.

Shift: Wednesday - Sunday

Summer Hours (mid April - October) 7am-3pm
Winter Hours (November - Mid April) 5am-1pm

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)**:
1. Service and repair electrical and plumbing equipment.

2. Monitor and assist with H.V.A.C. systems as required.

3. Assist with regularly scheduled inspections

4. Perform preventative maintenance as required.

5. Monitor and maintain computerized alarm systems throughout the Home.

6. Service, maintain and test emergency power, generator and lighting equipment.

7. Conduct general building maintenance and repair.

8. Set-up, take down and store furniture.

9. Perform seasonal grounds maintenance including grass cutting and gardening in summer and snow removal in winter as assigned.

10. Collect and dispose of garbage as assigned.

11. Maintain Health Care equipment including lifts.

12. Conduct fire drills and safety inspections and attend safety meetings.

13. Maintain inventory of supplies and storage of materials and complete requisitions as required.

14. Ensure all other maintenance needs are completed and maintenance log books are up-to-date and accurate.

15. Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, workshops etc. as directed by the Supervisor.

16. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into allday to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.

17. Acts as a member of the inter-disciplinary team within the Home.

18. Effectively utilizes all electronic systems provided.

19. Participate in committees as required.

20. Perform other duties as assigned.

21. Comply with all relevant legislations/regulations and County policies and procedures.

22. Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all Countyof Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation.

23. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

**EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION**:

- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
- A general knowledge in building maintenance and construction, plumbing and heating, electrical, painting andsmall engine/equipment repair. Post-secondary training in a related trade (electrical, plumbing, carpentry) is an asset.
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar or related position.

**EFFORT**:

- Visual and mental effort required when trouble shooting failure of equipment.
- Physical effort required when working on equipment, working up on a ladder or in confinedspaces.
- Constant standing, walking during work periods, turning, stooping, bending and lifting.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnessesand germs are possible on a daily basis.
- While performing duties, may be exposed to grease, oil, fumes/odours, etc.
- Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
