**Position Summary**
The Clinical Scholar Program (CSP) is a program that provides experienced nurses with leadership and mentorship opportunities in a Clinical Scholar role while working in a supernumerary position. The Clinical Scholar will mentor newly graduated nurses, nurse externs, internationally educated nurses (IENs) and nurses seeking to upskill and can support and supervise the new nurses’ transition into the workforce. The Clinical Scholar will work in collaboration with other teams as required supporting the strategic vision and direction of Ross Memorial Hospital.
As a Clinical Scholar you would be responsible for providing hands-on mentorship to the program beneficiaries and to support their nursing practice and integration into the clinical area in accordance with organizational and professional standards, and in collaboration with clinical teams.
Key duties:
- Design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs, incorporate adult learning principles while providing feedback, coaching and mentoring.
- Assess unit-level learning needs and support novice nurses to meet their goals.
- Provide comprehensive educational needs and evaluation to support newly hired nurses during orientation
- Provide direct and indirect supervision and support of clinical practice for novice nurses or nurses looking to upskill.
- Provide leadership in the delivery of evidence based nursing care and facilitate the integration of research into meeting established patient care standards/guidelines/protocols
- Contribute to the evaluation of educational goals and objectives
- Foster positive staff interactions and promote a positive culture
- Facilitate and support nurses through unit based initiatives and changes
- Ensure patient care complies with standards, legislation and regulations. Report non-compliance to program manager.
- Provide support and act as expert role model and resource for the delivery of high quality care.
**Department/Unit/Program Description**
The Surgical 4th Floor Unit is currently seeking a Temporary Part Time Clinical Scholar to join their healthcare team.
Effective date: September 3, 2024
End date: Ending on or before March 31, 2025
**Essential Qualifications**
- Registered Nurse (RN) and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Minimum ten (10) years nursing experience in frontline care in a hospital clinical setting, including: Surgery and Medicine and telemetry monitoring.
- Previous experience teaching, working with clinical learners, IENs, and/or precepting is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-directed and manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated leadership, change management, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with interprofessional teams.
- Ability to evaluate clinical learners and IENs, as well as orient to hospital policies, rules, and
regulations.
- Excellent clinical skills and competencies.
- Demonstrated outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work all shifts as necessary, including weekend availability.
- Strong computer skills with Epic.
- Excellent organizational and patient assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare
professionals.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development.

**Hours of Work**
Must be able to work eight (8) and twelve (12) hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shift hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA Collective Agreement.
