**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Position: Communication and Marketing Specialist**
**Start Date: CONTRACT - **Immediately to June 30th 2024
**Reports To**:Executive Director - Denise Robertson
**End Date**:Hopefully to lead to a permanent position

Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre (IDHHC) is the only non-profit agency of its kind on Vancouver
Island. For 32 years, IDHHC has been serving Deaf, DeafBlind, late deafened and hard of hearing individuals, their families and communities. IDHHC aims to address barriers to inclusion by providing access to assistive devices and supporting employment programs for culturally Deaf individuals as well as those with hearing loss. In addition to the services it provides IDHHC works to educate employers and the public to support inclusion, accommodation and accessibility for Deaf or hard of hearing individuals.

The Specialist will work with the ED to develop a one year communication plan including targets and objectives that fit within the organizations’ annual activity calendar. The incumbent will determine, plan and implement activities to achieve monthly goals and reach desired outcomes.

**Communication & Marketing Specialist responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
**Media/Public Relations**
- Building out strategic PR plans for IDHHC’s awareness campaigns
- Maintaining and updating Media Contacts Directory
- Writing and distributing press releases and coordinating media coverage for organizational events and developments
- Managing media enquiries
- Working with IDHHC team and clients to craft stories about IDHHC and its services

**Digital Marketing/Social Media**
- Develop and implement an integrated social media calendar and content
- Help develop and implement IDHHC’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels

**Content Creation**:

- Write and proofread copy for marketing materials including IDHHC’s newsletters, campaign materials, brochures and website copy

**Other**:

- Explore new relationships within the community to increase awareness of IDHHC’s initiatives
- Safeguard all confidential information used in performance of duties

**Skills required**:

- Post secondary education in communications, PR and/or marketing; and /or 3 to 5 years

PR/journalism/marketing experience required
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of communications plans, strategic planning and event planning
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to produce written work while demonstrating sensitivity to the topic and individuals involved
- Computer literate
- Working knowledge of Google Analytics advantageous
- Working knowledge in Adobe Suite products and graphic design advantageous
- Previous experience in non-profit communications advantageous

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 14 months

**Salary**: $32,000.00-$40,000.00 per year

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:

- public relations: 3 years (preferred)
