**Your future duties and responsibilities**

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Canada Cyber Security Team as a Security Vulnerability Specialist.

**Responsibilities**:
As a member of the Cyber Vulnerability Management team your primary duties will include but are not limited to:
Position Responsibilities:

- Support day-to-day operations of the Vulnerability Assessment Scanning (VAS) capability, managing escalations, collaborating with tools and technical support teams, and utilizing data to drive device and vulnerability discovery across all environments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities by assessing mitigation and detection capabilities, establishing repeatable testing processes, and monitoring remediation progress.
- Conduct network security audits and scanning on a predetermined basis
- Use automated tools (e.g. Tenable, Nexpose, Qualys, Nmap, etc) to pinpoint vulnerabilities and reduce time-consuming tasks
- Use manual testing techniques and methods to gain a better understanding of the environment and reduce false positives
- Manually validate report findings to reduce false positives
- Compile and track vulnerabilities over time for metrics purposes
- Write and present a comprehensive Vulnerability Assessment
- Review and define requirements for information security solutions
- Supply hands-on training for network and systems administrators
- Develop and maintain a vulnerability assessment database
- Conduct technical research
- Conduct horizon scanning activities for situational awareness
- Attend regularly and ad-hoc team meetings and be prepared to brief the members on VA activities and current state of vulnerabilities from various sources
- Liaise with vendors on any issues with the tools being used for scanning, keep clients aware and up to date on their status
- Research the technical aspects of specific hardware or software to determine its strengths and vulnerabilities, or gathering validating technical information of significant security exploits of interest
- Assist in threat mitigation recommendations based on situational awareness and horizon scanning findings with the team
- Report and investigate technical incidents
- Provide recommendations to clients for containment and eradication of threats
- Produce and update Vulnerability operations processes and procedures
- Participate in client on-boarding projects
- Participate in the evolution of services to reflect changing client needs
- Transfer knowledge to colleagues via delivery of training/mentoring and clear concise documentation
- Research, consultation with colleagues and training to maintain awareness of trends in new security threats, vulnerabilities, technologies and regulations
- May need to provide off-hours on-call support on a rotation basis

**Required qualifications to be successful in this role**

Qualifications:
Skills and Experience:

- Completion of a post-secondary educational program in IT Security or Computer Sciences from a recognized community college or university
- Preferred - two (2) years of demonstrated technical experience in an IT security role
- Knowledge of MITRE Att&ck tactics and techniques
- Demonstrated experience leading efforts to identify and resolve systems issues
- Demonstrated experience in network analysis and networking fundamentals
- Strong troubleshooting, reasoning and problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills and experience communicating effectively with clients, vendors and colleagues, both technical
