The Programming Specialist is responsible for a variety of duties related to program planning, quality of offerings, and support for prospective and current Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS) students. The incumbent provides essential planning and organizational support for a variety of unique program offerings or corporate training initiatives. The incumbent responds to concerns and inquires with a student-centered focus to achieve service excellence according to the CAPS Strategic Plan and Sheridan policies and procedures. With the direction of the Associate Dean, the Programming Specialist also works collaboratively with part-time CAPS Faculty and other Sheridan Stakeholders to build a community of Lifelong Learning that helps CAPS students exceed their professional development and employment goals.

What You’ll Be Doing

Advocating for the student perspective and important student-centered feedback, stories and/or questions;
Contributing to program environmental scans, job market trend analysis, student surveys, focus groups, and stakeholder feedback processes;
Providing the Associate Dean with enrolment and program/course plan based on analysis of potential for return on investment, space and use of capital resources, enrolment trends, student feedback and other quality and program review research data;
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, leading all Work Integrated Learning activities related to paid or non-paid placements and collaborates with internal and external Stakeholders;
Supporting instructors with preparation for skill-based learning activities that include supplies, resources, standard operating resources. This involves being on-site as required for planning and supporting the set-up and delivery of learning simulation and/or practice lab activities;
Guiding instructors with course delivery and SLATE functions to optimize functionality;
Attending and helping to facilitate events for specific portfolio or general CAPS event;
Collaborating with teams to determine specific registration, operations, and other custom student support strategies;
Advising and supporting students with concerns and questions specific to portfolio and/or those that require continued and personalized guidance that involves Academic Policies and Procedures (Accessible Learning, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Academic Integrity, Appeals, etc.);
Collaborating with faculty, other CAPS Team members, or Sheridan resource supports to provide information sessions that promote centralized Sheridan services;
With guidance from the Associate Dean and Faculty, determining new Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) requirements and plan and tracks independent study processes;
Planning meetings with CAPS team members and Stakeholders;
Performing other duties as assigned.

Your sense of judgement and critical thinking allows you to make sound decisions to prevent/resolve complex programming issues and/or student concerns

3-year diploma/degree in Business, Trades and Manufacturing, Technology, Health, Arts, Education, or related field along with a minimum of 3-years in a post-secondary environment and/or adult education with a focus on (equivalency will be considered):
Programming analysis and review of educational offerings to ensure quality.

Student Rights and Responsibilities, Accessible Learning, Academic Integrity, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and other important Academic and College policies

Minimum of 2-years in a business setting (providing or supporting the provision of services and operations in business) or experience in a post-secondary setting (planning and supporting delivery of business programming, learning simulation or skills practice educational experience).

Demonstrated computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Experience with student information systems (i.e. Peoplesoft and SLATE) is preferred.

Knowledge of CAPS’ procedures, programs and services is considered an asset.
