We believe the rich diversity among our students and the communities we serve should be reflected within our workforce. As educators, we believe it is important to act and show leadership in advancing the principles of reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in our community.

The Bay Area Climate Change Council (BACCC) is a collective impact initiative of community leaders working to accelerate climate action in the Burlington-Hamilton “Bay Area” region.

In order to reach net zero carbon by 2050, BACCC is working with partners to advocate and support smart policies and projects that will cut carbon emissions in both Bay Area communities by 50% by the year 2030.

To achieve this will require big changes to new and existing buildings, transportation networks, and local industry. This includes:

- Improving low carbon modes of transportation like biking, walking and public transit
- Increasing zero carbon vehicle uptake for all classes of vehicles (electric or alternative fuels)
- Retrofitting existing dwellings
- Building new buildings to a zero carbon standard
- Reducing local industrial emissions through innovation and without carbon leakage
- Ensuring low-carbon and reliable energy for our region

To do this, BACCC develops turn-key policy solutions on climate issues. It convenes Implementation Teams (BACCITs) that bring together actors in the public sector, industry and community to work together on key priority projects that will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Bay Area. These projects will focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation, buildings and industry sectors.

BACCC is supported by the Cities of Burlington and Hamilton and is a “coalition in residence” at the Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College.

- Effectively fundraise through grants, partnerships, and donations to secure resources for BACCIT projects and programs.
