Winnipeg, Canada Reach Youth Services Full time

Community Support Workers (CSW) are an integral part of the Reach Youth Services Independent Living Program. Using a relational-based approach, CSW’s will help youth and young adults as they transition to independence and adulthood.

Responsibilities include:
**Community-based Support**
- Support with daily living needs (i.e. groceries, medication)
- Securing bank accounts
- Fund disbursement
- Transportation to appointments/ meetings
- Support to connect youth with a family doctor, optometrist and dentist available to them as adults
- Ongoing awareness and promotion of various community based organizations/ government services
- Facilitate/promote access to community based programs including, cultural, recreation, training and physical exercise based on interest

**Housing Supports**

Housing (securing housing, regular check-ins and tenancy management, landlord relations)
- apartment searching
- regular check-ins for youth already housed
- teaching and mentoring home safety and tenancy management
- fostering good relationships with property managers and landlords
- support in apartment cleaning and restoration

**Life Skills Programming**
- Teaching and mentoring life skills programming, utilize curriculum and hands on lessons and/or integrated into daily living
- Assistance and teaching skills such as paying rent, setting up utilities, budgeting, meal planning, grocery shopping and meal preparation
- Guidance on hygiene
- Guidance and hands on support with housekeeping
- Guidance on healthy relationships, personal safety and wellness
- Support to address any barriers or challenges youth is experiencing

**Documentation and information sharing**

Maintain written logs, document pertinent information as it relates to youth activity and programs provided; communicate with team and other supports, adheres to duty to report on significant incidents and/or disclosures.

Qualifications:

- Possesses the skills necessary to implement community support and program delivery
- Understands differential needs, high risk behaviour and self-harm, able to deescalate situations and promote security and well-being of youth
- Exceptional time management and the ability to self initiate work plan based on priorities
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- A satisfactory criminal record check (dated within six months before starting work)
- A satisfactory child abuse registry check (dated within six months before starting work)
- Certified in First Aid and CPR
- A resume detailing skills, qualifications and previous employment or volunteer work
- Character references (at least one of which is related to education and/or employment)
- Medically, physically and emotionally able to do the work required
- Drivers license and regular access to a vehicle for work purposes
