**JOB TITLE**: _**Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator (Unionized HEU)**_
For over 75 years, St. Jude’s Anglican Home has been compassionately caring for older British Columbians. Located near Vancouver’s Cambie corridor, St. Jude’s is a not-for-profit Long term care home that serves 55 elders with half of our clients living in Special Dementia Care. We have a superb reputation for providing high quality, person-centered complex care.
We are now seeking a **permanent full-time** (Mon - Fri) position for:
**RECREATION AND VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR**
Reporting to the Director of Care, the **Recreation and Volunteer Co-Ordinator is passionate about building relationships with our senior clientele. ** Using the Eden philosophy as a tool, this role assesses each elder for loneliness, boredom and helplessness and develops individualized care plans. This position co-ordinates the overall variety of programs and interventions based on the needs of elders and implements and evaluates interventions on a continual basis. The coordinator provides direction to activity workers, implements the volunteer program and communicates events to residents, families, volunteers and staff.
KEY DUTIES:
Assesses elders using best practice for recreation/leisure programming. Implements individual and group programs. Ensures loneliness, boredom and helplessness are the focus of the care plan and interventions are meaningful and measurable.
Oversees activity workers by performing such duties as coordinating work assignments and maximizing the department resources.
Sets up a calendar of events/activities. Promotes and publicizes upcoming events by way of the calendar and website.
Documents elder’s progress and reports observations such as emotional well-being and social behaviour in Point Click Care charting program.
Follows organizational policies and procedures for purchasing, ordering, stock and inventory control. Ensures spending is within budget.
Supervises volunteers by providing related orientation and training, assessing volunteer performance and providing feedback.
8. Ensures best practices as they relate to therapeutic recreation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a recognized recreational program plus one year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Gerontology Experience an asset.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to teach
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
Days/hours of work:
9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday (flexible start times, some evening/weekend work for special events)
Wage: $31.89 per hour (as per collective agreement HEU Grid 27)
Comprehensive Benefit package and MPP membership as per the Facilities Subsector Collective Agreement
