Job Description Summary

The Manager is responsible for managing the strategic, operational and administrative organization of the Office of the Vice Dean, Education (VDE) core functions. Effectively and efficiently manages the fulfillment of the mandates, projects, and initiatives within the Office of the VDE.. Manages priorities and drives a variety of ongoing, annual, and one-time projects and activities to ensure efficiency and efficacy of the Office of the VDE initiatives and goals. Conducts research for the Vice Dean, Education, Senior Director, Education Programs and Services, and the Administrative Director, Office of the Vice Dean, Education advising them of options and recommended courses of action. Provides operational oversight to the VDE Office administrative team, of strategic planning and educational committees in the VDE Office, ensuring that they fulfill their mandates in the most efficient and timely manner.

Fosters effective working relationships with staff and faculty across the Faculty of Medicine and maintain excellent relationships with departments and units which as both internal and external to the Faculty of Medicine and the University. Provides operational leadership to Management & Professional staff and CUPE 2950 staff completing work in support of the Office of the VDE.

The position is based out of the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health (DMCBH). Occasional travel within the Lower Mainland may be required to support Office of the VDE operations/events at other UBC sites.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The Office of the Vice Dean Education (VDE) is responsible for multiple annual education budgets and for providing critical support and guidance to all educational programs offered within the Faculty of Medicine at all sites across British Columbia: MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) (in partnership with the Island Medical Program (IMP) in the University of Victoria, Northern Medical Program (NMP) in the University of Northern British Columbia, and in the Southern Medical Program in the UBC Okanagan), Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), Health Profession (HP) programs, Continuing Professional Development, Faculty Development and all other educational support units that support the teaching and education delivery of the Faculty of Medicine undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs. Additionally, this position will be required to have regular interaction with various hospitals, health authorities, government agencies and partner institutions, both local, national and internationally.

WORK PERFORMED
- Responsible for the overall operational management and leadership of the Office of the Vice Dean, Education, including continuous quality improvement to ensure the efficient and effective administration, organization, and operations of the Office of the VDE.
- Advises and works on long-range planning, strategic initiatives, and issues management; works with senior management of the Office of the VDE to carry out strategic priorities and administrative operational initiatives.
- Manages special strategic initiatives within the core of the Office of the VDE, including directing and delegating the activities of project teams, analyzing, and evaluating outcomes, providing recommendations on improvements, and developing summary reports.
