**Lead Camp Counsellor**
The Thorold Community Activities Group Summer Camp is a structured high quality, affordable and interactive experience for kids throughout the Summer. Campers are provided engaging, educational and hands on experiences throughout the summer led and organized by Camp staff.
Our weekly themes guide our activities, games and trips to help create a fun and engaging atmosphere for all staff and campers. With weekly trips, daily swims, fun Friday's and more, be prepared to have an exciting and busy summer that will leave you with lasting memories and valuable experience working with youth We are looking for energetic and positive counsellors who are dedicated to creating and maintaining a positive and engaging atmosphere. We are looking for individuals who are able to work as a team and on their own to remain organized and adapt to an ever changing environment. Come prepared to leave this summer with invaluable experience of working with and managing groups of children.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized facility according to COVID-19 regulations. All personnel are responsible for ensuring each area is clean, sanitized and free of clutter.
- Aid in creating and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Promote the TCAG in a positive manner while promoting the camp program.
- Serve as an ambassador for the TCAG within operations and in the community at large.
- Adhere to the TCAG written policies and procedures.
**Responsibilities**:
Lead planning and organization of weekly programs along with training sessions and staff meetings.
- Assist with supply shopping prior to the start of the camp program.
- Responsible for the group binders in their age group and updating on a weekly basis.
- Use his/her best efforts to maintain the high standards of programming at the TCAG and will conduct themselves respectfully and professionally with participants, staff and parents.
- Lead in a positive and professional manner, mentor to counsellors.
- Follow all COVID-19 policies and procedures and aware of PPE regulations.
- Deliver an exceptional camp experience for your entire group and staff.
- Oversee counsellors in their age group, main point of contact for any issues, secondary contact for parents.
- Responsible for and work with counsellors under their age group to help them grow and improve throughout the summer.
- Be able to give positive and constructive feedback in a timely manner
- Be able to delegate tasks to create a team atmosphere and share in the responsibilities of a group.
- Provide feedback to Site Supervisors regarding performance of counsellors.
- Prepare the weekly program plans along with a detailed list of supplies for the upcoming week and communicate to their counsellors. Throughout camp, monitor supplies and provide a list to Site Supervisors when necessary.
- Provide a structured before and after care program.
- Actively lead and participate in all games and activities.
- Follow pool protocol and be in the water at all times according to the ratios as instructed by the pool supervisor.
- Supervision of campers at all times in all areas including bathroom, change rooms, at the pool and offsite day trips.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers, volunteers and co-workers at all times.
- Acknowledges Behavior Management Procedures have been reviewed, as has TCAG’S emergency protocols and that they are followed throughout the duration of summer camp.
- Ensure consistency in all areas of the camp program with staff, parents and participants.
- Assist the Site Supervisors as needed.
- Attend all scheduled training and meeting sessions as scheduled.
Requirements & Expectations
- Experience working with children ages 4 to 11 years.
- Previous summer camp work experience.
- Previous supervisory/lead role experience.
- Supervise and train/mentor camp staff.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to change and manage difficult behaviours.
- Attend the pool each day and participate in water activities in the pool.
- Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a program related to children (example; Child & Youth Studies, ECE., Bachelors of Education, etc.)
- High Five Certificate in Principles of Healthy Child Development
- First Aid
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (within the last 6 months)
- Attend all training sessions and complete in house training certifications.
- This contract is for the entire months of July and August. It is encouraged to take vacation during the month of May and prior to training in June as vacation time cannot be guaranteed.
