**Position Summary**:
The Associate Director, Energy and Utilities supports the development of Energy and Environment’s short
- and medium-term business strategy and influences forward-thinking management decisions. This role leads the maintenance and lifecycle management of Cogen, Central Utility Plant, Medium Voltage (27.6kV) Microgrid, water, sewer, gas utilities, submeters, energy/GHG efficiency, and leads the COGEN business unit to strong margins and energy procurement with security of supply and reduced-price volatility. This role also leads the planning and transition of assets and energy sources to support airport expansion and achieving net-zero GHG goals.
**As Associate Director, Energy and Utilities, you will**:
- Anticipate and plan for current and future GTAA energy demand working with required partners to develop the long-term energy vision for Toronto Pearson that includes ensuring adequate and reliable supply of energy to support ongoing airport operation and forecasted growth during the LIFT program and beyond; collaboration with environmental team and business partners to plan for clean energy technologies, sources and supply to support net-zero GHG objectives for both the GTAA and our partners; identify commercial opportunities associated with energy
- Lead and develop power generation policies and practices so as to maximize the operating margins of the Cogen plant in supplying power under the MTC 1 agreement
- Lead analysis of various utility data sources and provide information and reports to other managers and departments regarding potential alternative energy options for power/supply needs
- Lead energy conservation efforts including energy savings, awareness programs and monitoring energy consumption
- Oversight of asset energy use, energy emissions credits tracking and emissions reduction reporting
- Develop and maintain ongoing energy procurement practices so as to ensure Toronto Pearson has sustained access to reliable and cost effective electrical, natural gas supply
- Technically represent the GTAA as Ontario and Federal market rules and regulations evolve, to ensure GTAA’s interests and risks are appropriately protected and mitigated
- Ensure compliance to environmental, health and safety regulations including fire protection, ESA, TSSA, FHR, IESO and codes such as CSA, CCME and NFPA
- Lead a collaboration with regards to Business Continuity and lead the development of the long term asset plan for Cogen, Central Utilities Plant, Medium Voltage (27.6kV) distribution system and water, sewer, gas utilities, and submeter system
- Engage Strategic Sourcing and other stakeholders to develop tenders and award contracts that enable the delivery of services that meet or exceed established standards; and negotiate with suppliers, agencies and others to create optimal business agreements to deliver services
- Work with the Engineering team to ensure alignment through regular communication and collaboration and resolve engineering related technical concerns with respect to energy and utilities
- Lead a collaboration with the local electricity, natural gas utilities and energy markets, engineering and experts to forecast medium term future requirements and ensure that the markets can support future airport growth
- Work with managers for budgeting and planning for annual operational and capital expenditures
- Develop, maintain and leverage relationships with union leadership, internal and external stakeholders to deliver on maintenance projects and initiatives
- Model the GTAA leadership behaviours; and coach, mentor and develop individuals on your team

- Bachelor of Engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical or related)
- Professional Engineer, CEM, LEED AP, ENV SP or Class 1 Stationary Engineer or a combination of equivalent experience
- 15 plus years experience working in the energy or sustainability design sector, inclusive of experience in energy or utilities planning or facilities management experience
- 10+ years experience leading team preferably in a fast-paced operations and maintenance environment inclusive of experience leading in a unionized environment
- Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance
